Super Suppliment

I've been researching a supplement that was mentioned in Dogs Naturally Magazine. and the further I looked into it the more interesting and impressive this looked. It seems to have host of benefits and dozens of articles. Dr. Oz has talked about it and here DR. Mercola interviews an expert on it.

from Dogs Naturally Magazine says it's really good for older dogs and to quote
"Astaxanthin is also very good for humans.
Itís the super supplement that most
people donít think of at all, let alone first,
but itís worth consideration. Research has
shown that chronic inflammation often
leads to chronic dis-eases such as diabetes,
cancer and arthritis, to name a few. Reducing
free radical damage can help to reduce
inflammation and thus break the chronic
cycle. Keep in mind, however, that dosage
varies between species: humans absorb
astaxanthin better and only require a daily
minimum of 4 mg to reap astaxanthinís
benefits, whereas dogs need 1.5 mg per
pound of body weight (Jean S Park, Hong
W Kim, et al, Astaxanthin uptake in domestic
dogs and cats. Nutrition and Metabolism
2010).
Cancer is the number one killer of dogs,
with 50 percent of them destined to be
diagnosed with some form of it in their
lives, so reducing chronic inflammation
can lower those odds.
In short, astaxanthin is an important super
antioxidant which can greatly benefit
the quality and vitality of your dog's life
Tail-wagging good news: let your dog run
with it."
