VECTRA

Has anyone used Vectra for fleas? My vet recommended we switch. Says fleas will jump on but don't stay on and therefore don't bite.

Michele, I have not used Vectra....but I read this today and I'm wondering if it will work:

In his book "Natural Health Care for Pets," Dr. Richard Pitcairn shares a simple flea repellent. " It's ideal for use just after you give your pet a bath. Boil 1 pint of water and add 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary (or 1 teaspoon fresh). Let this steep for 10 minutes and strain. Cool until it reaches body temperature, then pour over your pet's coat, rub it in, and dry as usual. This will not only repel fleas, but will give your animal a glossy coat, as well.

It was on a site that has LOTS of information that is worth reading. I have it bookmarked...

Dale, I might try that since I have tons of fresh rosemary and it has a pleasant piney fragrance.
Michelle, I have been using Comfortis but I'm not sure now that it is tick season since it is only for fleas. Is the Vectra also for ticks? We are out of the Comfortis so I need to decide on something in the next couple of weeks.

The reason he suggested the switch is because Vectra doesn't allow the fleas to bite. Kodi is very allergic to flea bites, poor baby.

We use Vectra D and I've never seen a flea or tick since we've had dogs. A portion of our backyard is wooded and the dogs are out there in the leaves and pinestraw every day.
