Found a Tick on Baloo...

I don't know what to do now. I removed it, it was completely engaged, but a piece of the head won't come off. At least I think it was a tick, I didn't think ticks had white bodies.... I guess I better keep searching for more info.

But what should I do now? Should I notify the vet?

I am putting him on Sentinel or I was, but after researching it, I see it does nothing to prevent or kill ticks...so now I am wondering what else I can give him.

What do other Canadians on here give for flea and tick prevention? I don't know if we can get advantix or frontline here.

I just got one on Dash too. I called the vet Friday as we found it on him. The vet told us the trick is to hold it with the tweezers and slightly pull it until it gets tired and that is how you get the head off. We kept the tick and just monitor the area and Dash. You should probably call and see if there is a high occurence of lyme disease in your area. I just had the backyard sprayed too... ugh! I will watch your thread for other suggestions too.

I hate ticks, so far this year I have found one on Sam and one on Delilah and one on my 4 year old son. I found this website on how to remove them.

I don't give my guys anything for ticks, I'm really careful about line combing them and checking daily.

Brady used to get ticks all of the time. Fortunately, the only ones I have found on him this season have been crawling. I do use Frontline. I have had it happen before where the head has gotten stuck. I had called the vet and they said to leave it be. It will disolve on itself. Those ticks are really gross when they blow up!

Dexter is on Frontline for a few months. The only ticks I have found were DEAD ONES.
