Nino In The Ring!

Just 3 days until Nino's first match. We've been doing a lot of practicing in all types of locations. The show is outdoor, so I've been working with Nino on all types of grass and terrain, and he's doing a wonderful job. He is gaiting beautifully and his free stack is great. He struggles with being hand-stacked, but I'm not too concerned. It's a puppy fun match *shrugs*

Tonight, we are going to a run through at a local training center. Nino's breeder and his half-sister who he grew up with will be there. I'm excited to see how he reacts to seeing them again I'm going to try to get some videos tonight. Those, and videos and pictures from Saturday, will be added here.

Sophie, Mario, and Nino.

Can't wait to see how he does! You've been more diligent than I have about getting ready. Panda heels well, so I think that will help with gaiting, and we HAVE practiced stacking on the table, and having a "judge" go over her. Oh well! Like yours, ours is just a match. My goal is for her to have a good time in the ring.

The run through went much better than expected. His half-sister and littermate brother were both there, so the two puppies were not exactly 'on' the first 10 minutes. His brother is also going to enter the fun match on Saturday, so there's a bit of added pressure (no BOB shoo-in), but Nino tended to be better behaved in the ring yesterday. It will be have them competing against each other all throughout, but we might end up switching them between 6-9 mo and American Bred so they aren't always in the same class.

I've already told Nino that he's being sent back to the breeder if his brother beats him this weekend

After the run through, the boys had a great time of play. They were the most closely bonded in the litter, and it was as if they hadn't even been apart. I so wish I had gotten a video, but they will be together all weekend, so I'm sure fun times will be had for you guys to see!

Sophie, Mario, and Nino.

With Nino, the gaiting came very naturally, and he really likes to perform, as I learned last night. His brother couldn't keep his nose off the ground, and other dogs wouldn't take their eyes off the handler, so I was mighty proud of his show off-ness I was really nervous about the table, mostly because he has about 10 teeth erupting right now so he's mouthy, but he seemed to understand that it was time for good behavior. I've done a lot of fiddling (ears, paws, mouth), but never had someone he doesn't know do it...oops.

We're in it for the experience and the fun, but I'm secretly hoping Nino comes out on top of his brother heh.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes for you and Panda! I'm expecting lots of photos and video. What day is the match?

The AKC B match (which is the one we're doing) is tomorrow night, and then I show Kodi in obedience (Preferred Open) on Sat. There's a Havanese-only fun match on Sat. late afternoon. But I don't want to keep either of them there long enough for both the obedience, which should be mid-day-ish, and the fun match which probably won't get started until at least 5:00.
