First Show (for real this time)

Today was quite the adventure. I had 4 alarms set for around 4:30, planning on leaving for our meeting place around 7:30. That would give us more than enough time to have Nino bathed, me showered, and everything packed. Well, things never go according to plan, and I didn't end up waking up until 7.

I quickly line-combed Nino out, threw all of our stuff together, got changed, and threw my hair into a dirty but cute updo. Luckily, my breeder wasn't showing (her class bitch only needs a major and there wasn't one today, so she didn't want to take singles from those who needed them), and the family we were going to carpool with had to go separately for juniors, so I still had my ride. Nino had a nice 2 minute reunion with his family before we threw him into his crate and in the van

Nino showed relatively well today. He was VERY excited, so he was charging a bit while walking which is usually what he does best, sooo... He stood very nicely though, both on the ground and on the table, his biggest weakness. We got our ribbons, class, winners, and BOS as expected. My little junior buddy took winners and best of winners with the girl that inspired us to get another Hav for 2 points. If she does the same tomorrow, she will have just her majors left.

Something I find a bit troubling is the overgrooming epidemic with the Neezers. A very respected handler (who is a wonderful guy, don't get me wrong) teases and hairsprays the Havs he has and even takes a straightener to his specials girl (what happened to a wavy coat??). These dogs with 80s hair consistently do well even though the standard calls for natural grooming. I don't even mind a little spray here and there (VERY stingy) to get fussy hairs to stay to the side, but a straightener? Yikes. I walked in with my unbathed guy, mop falling in his eyes, and I think he looked pretty dang good. Oh well, what can ya do?

I doubt he will take BOW tomorrow, given that tomorrow's judge tends to favor pros over owners, but because of that, we could be the only owner handler in BOB, making us the default BOBOH hehe. Who knows, maybe a bath will make the difference :P

Pics will be up tomorrow.

Sophie, Mario, and Nino.

Same placements on day 2, but also BOBOH (owner-handled best of breed). We decided to forgo the NOHS group because that is a heck of a lot to ask from Nino on his first weekend out.

He did MUCH better today. No charging, gaited beautifully, was his happy, focused self. Unlike yesterday, the judge actually gave us a good look for best of winners, but eventually gave it to a lovely little girl. He looked nice up against her though! Very proud of him, both for today and yesterday.

Sophie, Mario, and Nino.
