Wowza! After an almost 12 hour day (we left at 6:45 am), we are home and I am incredibly proud of my boy.
We were honestly expecting to be out and on our way home by 10. Our ring time was at 9, so we figured we would go in, do our thing, socialize a bit, and leave. Nino ended up going Winners, Best Puppy of Breed, and Best of Breed Owner-Handled. He got his first point by beating a wonderful little dog (who in the 12-15 month class, too!) so we got a win photo taken and packed up to head out for lunch. He had his first experience with a restaurant patio (and was doted on by the staff), and then we were back for puppy group.
Group judging started at 1:15, and each puppy group went immediately after their respective group. Nino went out and won the Toy group against a field of wonderful pups (including one who had just beat 8 others for BOB). He did even better in group than in breed, and I couldn't believe it.
We had initially decided to skip OH group because it was asking a lot of him and we thought we would have to stay much longer, but things timed up nicely and Nino was ON. After a long nap on top of my blazer on our grooming table, he held his own against a OH group consisting mostly of champions. It was his best performance all day. He looked like a veteran and never stopped wagging his tail.
We didn't get BPIS, but boy did he truck through. He was bouncing from ring to ring and putting his game face on each and every time. He charmed the heck out of everyone he met, and he didn't show one bit of resistance the entire day (I guess those hour long run throughs have paid off).
Tomorrow, I go at it alone. No family, no breeder. Thankfully, it's just breed tomorrow...unless he goes BOB
Fingers crossed that one point becomes two.
