Question-Is a red the same as a chocolate? Or do they have black pigment?
Just answered my own question. Went on your website...he is stunning!

Yes, red is completely different both in the way it looks and the genetics behind it from chocolate. If you see one of each in person, you would never confuse them again.

Here's the Best in Show picture. I tried to edit and add both to the first post, but it wouldn't work.

He's just 10 months old, and still has a lot of his puppy coat. Pam thought she had his hair back off of his eyes, but it was on the way forward when the picture was snapped. The chair was part of the winnings, and the kennel club host for the show wanted it in the picture with him sitting on it.

Anyway, good picture or not, it's one to remember.

Pam and Red went back to his handling class today. I'm anxious to hear what the others think about his weekend. It's a beginning handling class, but the only one Pam could find in the daytime, and it's a little over an hour away. She had taken Red to the first two classes.

After they started the first class, and did a once around, the teacher saw that Pam knew what she was doing, and she asked Pam why she was there. Pam told her that she had never had a leash on him yet, and thought that he needed to learn the show routine with some other dogs in the ring.

Pam said it was a little funny when the teacher asked everyone what their showing experience was, and the other answers were mostly none. Pam told them what her experience was. I'm sure the others will enjoy hearing about Red's weekend.

She carried the big ribbons with her today to the class. I asked her when she came back from the show if she was going to bother to take Red back to the handling class, and she said she still had a couple of things to work on with him.

answering CHiChi: There is a lot of confusion over Red. Pam even overheard a couple of people saying you can't breed a red to a red. They must have been thinking it's a dilute, like Chocolate is. There may be some reds that are also dilutes, but reds we know anything about are not dilutes. They have black pigment.

We've never bred anything that didn't have black pigment, and avoided getting dilutes into our lines. Pam understands all the dna code about what is known now about color genes, but I never started trying to understand it.

Thanks. I think he'll be a lot better looking once all that yucky puppy coat is gone. His adult coat coming in really is gorgeous.
