Panda's sire's sire is Kenny, GCH CH Yup's Malibu Dream, 2013 Best Havanese Dog. (Top Havanese that year was a bitch, so he was #2 in the breed) In 5 generations back, Panda only has 5 dogs who were not champions on the top. On the bottom, her Dam's dam's line is all champions. He dam's sire's line is imported Pillowtalk dogs. He was finished after she was imported, but the dogs further back on the top don't show up on AKC papers or searches because any wins they had would have been in FCI, not AKC. (and heaven forbid AKC should report titles from any other organization! )

I really don't have the band width to go through it all dog by dog or show by show. Elizabeth knows ALL the judges, and will tell me if one is a bad fit for Panda. (I'm in charge with planning performance stuff, she's in charge of the conformation end) Generally, if they like Cab, they like her. Unfortunately, it means she's usually against her dad (who has an adult coat) in the breed ring.

The funny thing is that there is a lot of Panda's breeding that I wouldn't choose if I were looking for my "dream pedigree". But she is one of those individuals who is DEFINITELY an improvement on her dam. In some ways I like her better than her sire, in other ways he's better. And she will NEVER be campaigned the way he has, so she will never have the conformation career he has had, even were she capable of it. (so we'll never know on that front )

BTW, it feels like other "rites of passage" for my girl, she has passed her cardiac, Cerf and patella tests! Hips she's too young for, and we'll do thyroid when she has her annual stick for titers. I don't KNOW that we will ever breed her, (and that decision is solely mine) but I promised Elizabeth that we'd do all her testing as if that was the intention.
Never say never Nino's sire was a top 10 Havanese for a few months in very limited showing and was, for a bit, the #1 Havanese before he retired. Completely owner-handled, as all of her dogs are, to his grand. If she would have put him on a PH, he could have made it really big, but he is a velcro in all aspects, and sending him away from her would have broken the poor, sensitive guy

Nino is from a line breeding of a dog out of Pillowtalk imports, so I wouldn't be surprised if he and Panda actually are related quite a bit within 5 gens. We have talked about how similar they look...who would have thought that they are more closely related on the "red side" than on the "black and white side". What is the name of her dam?

When purchasing Nino, I wasn't well-versed in the pedigrees and specifics behind the breed, but looking at it now, his pedigree has some of my favorite producers in the breed within it. Now if only he could have gotten his dad's coat. THEN I would have been a bit happier. C'est la vie.

Big congrats on the health tests! I haven't even thought of doing any of Nino's. I will probably wait a bit to ensure he continues on the upward path he has been before taking the plunge and spending the money. Fingers crossed.

Any idea when you plan on having Panda return to the ring?

Sophie, Mario, and Nino.

Me too. I'm unbelievably attached to that darn coat. Never touching it with scissors

I'm going to try to get some nice continuous shot photos of his movement in the next few days so I can analyze it a bit more than I could with a video. His topline looks much better than I ever noticed, so I'm sure there is a lot that can be learned from photos.

Just did a quick check on the Gallery...6 of the 14 Pillowtalk dogs in Nino's 5 gen are also in Panda's, and they both have Buster as a relative. Too funny

Panda's dam is Skyline's Autumn's Sunset Glow, and she's a red brindle irish pied. Her top line is all Pillowtalk, her bottom line is mixed U.S. bloodlines... Marcos, Los Perritos, Wincroft... It was a (intentional) dual sired litter and there were several red sables, but all by the other sire. All 3 of Cab's kids (out of 11...EEEEKKK) were B&W.

No plans at this point as far as getting back in the conformation ring... We're working hard on both obedience and agility (which are MY main interests anyway) We've just got to wait and see how long it takes her coat to grow. Among adult dogs right now, she'd look like we put an over-large puppy in the open class.

The tests so far haven't been too much... $40 for the CERF and $70 for cardiac and patellas together. I know the hips will be more, since there are not only the X-rays, but also sedation. Often "real" breeders do prelims, so they know whether to keep the dog or pet it out, but since she's staying no matter what, I only want to pay for one set of X-rays, when she's 2. (and of course, her breeder paid for the BAER testing for the whole litter)

Half the Havs in the country have Buster in them somewhere. The problem with "Popular sire syndrome". (not that there was anything wrong with Buster, it just leads to genetic bottle necks)
