Hahaha!!! IF you DON'T want it to happen, you need to be STRONG, and steel your heart! It would have been SOOOO easy for me to talk myself into taking one of my friend, Elinor's red puppies... And she would have been delighted. But 3 is PLENTY!!!

I believe there is too much emphasis on what a Havanese should look like in Conformation. I would rather have a happy dog than a perfect looking dog. Ricky is happiest when his fur is a mess! When we comb him out each day, the first thing he does is shake himself out to get the fur the way he wants it. And that is fine with us.

Getting the ideal wavy coat can be difficult if a dog has been blown out (Nino has quite a bit of wave, but it is near poker straight on show days), but taking a hot tool to the coat so that a frizzy, incorrect one will lay flatter is damaging and dishonest IMO. This was a show in Iowa, nothing grand or fancy. If the obsession at that level is so strong, I can't imagine what these people would be like at a bigger show.

Nino is definitely a fan of getting dirty. It typically means he has had quite a bit of fun I have had a number of friends tell me he could be bathed right before a hike and by the end he would fit well in one of those sad pound puppy commercials

Ricky and Nino are in a band of brothers. Every morning after our walkies, Ricky gets a paw and leg bath. Surprisingly, Ricky has come to enjoy the extra attention to his extremities and cooperates without complaint!

Mine don't really mind "undercarriage washes" either. (they just say "DON'T WASH MY FACE!!!" ) _I_ just mind, because washing and drying THREE dirty dogs, even just legs and bellies!) takes a LONG time!!! And for at least half the year here, it's too cold to let them air dry.

Ahhhh, but the positives SO FAR out-weigh the negatives! (you're not getting off that easy, Popi! )
