Our 1st show!

Layla and I went to our first show this weekend and had a blast, but I'm glad it's behind us. We ended up qualifying both days and now have 2 legs towards our Rally Novice title. Saturday we earned a score of 91/100 and Sunday we earned an 88/100. Although Sunday was a lower score, we had a much better run than Saturday's run. The video for Saturday somehow didn't save on my husbands phone so I can't post it, but it was really hard to keep Layla's attention and she just didn't work like she's capable (maybe the fact it was 100 degrees outside might have been part of it, poor dogs!). Sunday we had a rough start entering the ring and I'm not sure why. I was thinking that because it was sooo hot in there on Saturday she associated the ring with the heat. Who knows! Anyway, as you'll see on video the judge asks us to go back out and enter again. This really helped, but I was rattled because I wasn't sure how many points we'd lose (turns out it was no points off). After the start I totally blew the first sign, which was a Sit, down your dog, I asked her for down before she could even sit all the way, that was a 10 pt boo boo. I think because I was still thinking about our start. We had a tight leash on the weaves and I shuffled my feet forward on the first call front, which was 1 pt each against us. If I had been more focused on sign 1 we could have had a score of 98! How awesome that would have been, oh well. I am so proud of my girl and love her to pieces!!

Posting this on the show/competition>rally forum. Hope this is where it supposed to go. There hasn't been a post here since 2015...

Yay! Knew you guys would do well! So happy things went relatively nicely; a Q on both days at your first trial (show? competition?) doesn't always happen.

I know very little about the obedience/rally side of dog sports. Tell me: does every Q add a leg toward a certain title, and how many legs will it take to get her RN title?

Love!

I really want to do rally with Lola, but the training centers that have it locally are at least 30-60 minutes from where i live, and the classes are almost always at 6PM, which is near impossible for me to get to after work with I-95 traffic. I have Lola signed up for a Focus class end of next month, which works on focus while doing obedience commands (Lola is easily distracted) at a club that's almost an hour away, but has a 7:30 class. I've never been able to get her into the beginner novice as it's always full, but I figured if I'm already a part of the club, I can find out when the next class starts earlier and sign her up.

Thanks so much guys! We had a great time and learned lots.

When you get 3 qualifying scores, that's 3 legs and then you receive a novice, advanced, or excellent title. In our case we will receive our Novice title, hopefully on our next run.

Focus class for Lola is absolutely the best! In my opinion, if you don't have focus nothing much good will happen or it will come slow. That's what happened to us on Saturday! Layla was just in " lala" land and every command I gave she was slow to react, if she did it at all, lol. In fact, after this weekend we are going back and working on "focus" again and she is 2 1/2. They're a work in progress always haha. Also, I would put a request in at your training centers for rally or the classes and times you want. You never know they might accommodate if they know there is interest out there. Rally is a lot of fun!!

Also, I should clarify that the 3 qualifying scores, then you receive a title is for AKC Rally. I'm not sure how the other organizations do it...

I love it! You guys did awesome! I don't know how the judge and bystanders didn't melt into big puddles on the floor watching your darling little white booted girl work. I was not going to do obedience this time around, with Sophie but now you have me considering Rally again. Great job!

I honestly couldn't believe how many people commented on her! It was kinda funny because most thought she was an itty bitty puppy and they were amazed how young she was and how well she was doing, haha. I hated to spoil their awe by telling them she's almost 2 1/2 yrs old, but I did. Her "tools" (as my husband calls her white bootys) obviously didn't sway the judge! I really enjoy training with her. You should consider Rally with Sophie, especially with your experience in obedience. You have so many shows and options in your area. Layla is my first dog and it's like the "blind leading the blind".

You and Layla did FANTASTIC!!! And she did look too cute to be legal! For future reference until the judge says "are you ready", you say "yes" and the judge says "Forward" you are not being judged. Once she engaged with you, she was all in. You should be very proud.

And, yes, no matter what venue, level titles always require 3 legs. (Q's). In AKC, the top title in rally is the RAE, and for that, you need 10 QQ's, a Q in Advanced and a Q in Excellent, at the same trial. In WCRL, there are a bunch of titles that build on each other and have different requirements in terms of the number of Q's needed. But the LEVEL titles work the same as AKC... 3 legs for a title.
