Back in the WCRL ring!

WCRL trial at Master Peace this weekend... I skipped the Toy Dog Cluster because I just thought it was too far and too much with a 13 week old in tow. Day one down, and I'm pleased. In Level 1 we got a 210 (perfect score), 4th place on time. Level 2 had "The Dreaded Food Bowls". We were in good company NQ'ing, and a few people just went home without even trying. The good thing about WCR is that you can train on course (if you NQ) so when it became obvious that the bowls were NOT happening for us, I pulled him out, reset at the previous sign and worked through them again. The rest of his run was lovely. Level 3 we had a good time on a challenging course, and ended with a 208 for second place. This was also our RL3X3 Championship. Best of all, except for the food bowl debacle, his heeling was beautiful all day! There is a piece missing from the beginning of both the videos I got (technical difficulties with the people I asked to record!) but here's the level 2:

And here's the Level 3: http://youtu.be/DSiof0WgfWk

Oh, and Miss Pixel was a delight to have along. We did a bit of training, let her sit in various people's laps, and she spent the rest of the time quietly and contentedly hanging out in her crate like a very good girlie! Had to have some SERIOUS RLH time in the back yard when we got home, though!!! Love this puppy!

Very impressive Karen, both the exercise and the fact you had a 13 week old in tow. Good on ya.

Amigo Kodi, you are making it very tough on us little doggies. How can we ever be as good as you at obedience? Ni modo, I will just keep practicing. Popi and I watch Kikopup videos together for training tips.

Tia Karen, I noticed in your gardening videos that amigo Kodi carries his tail much higher arch over his back than I do. I carry mi tail flat on mi back. What does this mean, if anything?

Wow! I don't know how you missed a first at the third level. He looked perfect and was so attentive .

The standard does call for a Havanese tail to arch over the dog's back. Unfortunately, more and more Havanese have tight tails. While it's CERTAINLY not the only, or most important part of the breed standard, I really love the higher arching tails, which just touch the back bone. It's probably Kodi's best feature. He actually has nice conformation in terms of his body and a beautiful tail set. But his nose and ears are both a little long, and he is at the very top of the breed standard in height.

Pixel has very nice conformation so far (things can change with puppies!) and should be small-moderate in size. But HER tail is tighter than I would really like. It is not flat to her body, but also doesn't have the beautiful arch that Kodi's does. Oh well! No dog is perfect!

And we see in the show ring all the time that Havanese are often not penalized for tight tails. So it seems to be fairly low on the list of importance for judges.

Thanks! He was very, very good. But he got very crooked on the "Back 3 steps in heel position", and that's where he lost the 2 points. That's a really hard exercise. I think we've only done it a couple of times without losing ANY points.
