Nino's...a lot. I love him for it, but the intensity is both a blessing and a curse. Sometimes I wonder what he would be like if he had ended up in a pet home. I do expect Brisket to speed up (in the last week he has started banking his tunnels already), but I doubt I will ever run another Havanese like Nino.
Teeters have never been not ok for Nino, but he was very blase about them, and because he is so small framed, less than excellent teeter performance means precious seconds eaten up. I noticed a discrepancy in his YPS for standard and jumpers bigger than it should be, and I decided I needed to make a change after a seminar instructor told me "That teeter is doing nothing but holding him back". With Brisket, I'm trying to make it exciting BEFORE we have issues so I don't have to spend months re-teaching
Yes, you got the "Border Collie style" Havanese in Sir Nino! LOL!
The funny thing about Kodi is that he ALSO has that INTENSITY about him in terms of always NEEDING to work. But although he loved agility CLASS, and could be fast in class, he just really found the atmosphere of trials demotivating. He can be soft in some ways. I became apparent that he was running for me, not because he loved it. Could we have slogged along and made it through Open? I think so... especially in Standard, because he PREFERED the contacts, and his enjoyment of those gave him a reason to keep running. Sometimes in the middle of a JWW course he'd just look around and go, what, MORE jumps?!?! And just sort of slow down... I think we only needed one or Q each to get his Open titles, but...
It was pretty clear that he wasn't having the fun we had together in Obedience and Rally. And why take a dog who had such a stellar career in those sports and FORCE him to continue in another one just because _I_ wanted it.
Panda is different. She showed every sign of thinking it was a really fun game! Though not, as I said, a speed demon like Nino. Which is fine. I'm not your age, either! LOL! But now I'm broken. So we'll see what happens there. When Covid gets over, she'll get back in the Performance rings, where she was ready to finish her BN, start Novice, in Obedience and move up to Intermediate and Advanced in Rally. And I want to show her in UKC conformation, and PERHAPS dabble in the Special ring. We'll see about that. So we'll have a lot on our plates anyway.
Kodi is still broken right now also, so not doing any regular training, but we are having a BALL doing our "concept training". He is learning to "Match to sample" at the moment. Where I hold up a "thing", and he has to look at 4 items on the table in front of him and target the match to the item I'm holding. It's absolutely fascinating work!!!
