2008 National Positions Available

Laura sent me an e-mail asking me to post this here.

Quote:
First, if you would like to volunteer to be an Assistant Show Chair, be prepared to learn both before and during the show. You must be present at the show to be an Assistant Show Chair as learning by doing is one of the key things to becoming a show chair (i.e. I don’t want to have do this forever <VBG>). Those who want to learn about what all needs to be done as a Show Chair and those who are hoping to one day become a show chair really need to be an Assistant first, to learn everything. And this year, I will promise to include the Assistants with a lot of the day to day activities, so that they are aware of what is going on. I would like to limit this group to a total of 4 people.

If you’d like to volunteer, please contact the appropriate committee chair. If there isn’t a committee chair yet, then please contact me with the committee you’d like to volunteer for and a bit about yourself. If you have questions about what some of the committees do, please contact me and I’ll send you the information (plus that makes me document for future show chairs and committees).

Thank you!

My recommendations:

I'll add my own comments on the open positions in case anyone would like to help and doesn't really know what they are. The dog sitting is for watching dogs in a separate room during the two dinners. (I don't think there are other dog sitting options this year, but I'm not sure about that either.) You will be "paid" in a meal allowance, and rewarded in lots of doggy kisses.

Checking people in at the show is a great way to get to put a lot of names to faces. You would be able to greet everyone arriving to the National Specialty and give them their name tag, etc.

HCA Merchandise is something that most of you are aware of from last year (the throw blanket, the sweatshirts, the t-shirts, etc. all with the logo for that year). This position would also be good for meeting a lot of people and handling the sales of the merchandise.

Grounds is probably a little more than I am aware of, but it is mostly to make sure that poop bags are available in the dog walking area, and that people are leaving the grounds of the hotel clean. There may be more to this, but you would need to ask Laura. This area is good with a team of workers together. They always wear a special t-shirt so people can find them easily.

Health Testing would require someone who is organized and is willing to contact veterinarians in the area who will come for the health testing of the dogs and be there on the day it is offered to coordinate it.

Several of us can help answer questions too, but if you are interested in one of the above areas, you can contact the chair of that area directly, or Laura Pfab if there is no chairperson.
