Kara? Anyone? Direct flights to VA

Kara, I don't know if you ever fly across the country, but I'm having the darndest time finding a direct flight to Richmond.

Does anyone know if there are any airlines that fly from Northern California to Richmond, VA (RIC) or any of the other nearby airports? Should I be checking out other airport options that are close to Richmond that wouldn't take hours to drive or catch a shuttle? Just in the Bay Area, I have three international airports in close proximity (OAK, SJC and SFO), so it isn't like I'm restricted to my options on this end. I just can't seem to find anything that is realistic.

I can find flights for just under $400 if I take two layovers and spend 10+ hours in travel. Egads! Or, I can spend well over $500, still need a layover and get there a couple of hours sooner. I don't remember the flight options being this difficult last time.

Kimberly, I hear ya! I have a few passes on AA, but a 1.5 hr flight on Delta, turns into an 8 hr flight on American. I guess I'll save the free flight for somewhere else.

It just boggles my mind that it is so difficult to find a simple flight. I can't end up doing two layovers, because two plane changes makes it all that much more likely to miss a flight, and if I am traveling with a dog, 10+ is awfully difficult. The most direct flight I could find means flying all the way down to Dallas and then back up to Richmond. That seems so silly.

I didn't think you could take a dog on Jet Blue! I just looked and it appears you can. Is that new?

Yes and try flying out of SFO and returning to OAK do a multi city search I think that might work for you, I do not know what dates you are thinking and I tried Mon-Sun and got some OK flights

Hmm..

Richmond is a small airport, that is probably why your are having the problem. Direct flight? Gosh, I don't think you'll find one from California, but maybe.

I would check into a layover in Dulles or Atlanta, those seem to be major hubs when we fly out of Virginia.

OR, you can check into flying into DC and driving to Richmond, but that's still an hour and a half or so.

Weird. I thought I replied to this, but...

Leeann, since our airports are all about 30 minutes apart (without traffic), that would work out easily. I'll have to see what we can find with the least amount of travel time (in the air or in airports). Car travel doesn't matter as much because we have a lot more flexibility.

Kara, I didn't realize it was so close to Dullus. I'll have to check it out. Mapquest says the drive from Dullus to Richmond is two hours, but that's not a big deal. That may work out well for us. I needed a visit to D.C. anyway, so maybe this will be my excuse. Thanks!

(Oh, and now I'm wondering if that one flight I saw had a layover in Dallas or Dullus. )

Kimberly,
What are the dates that you are looking for?
I found a couple for $209 but the dates may make a difference
