Nina was wormed when we got her about two months ago. Today she vomitted up some worms. DH ran to the store and got meds. Now should I worm her every month? It was round worms by the way. My gut feeling is she came with them but would the last worming, when she came, not have taken care of it?
I am not used to worming a dog monthly but then we have never seen this.
Should I take her stool to a vet in a couple of weeks to have it tested?
Do you worm monthly and if so with what?
I have no other dogs or cats and she is always inside or on the leash.
Also we have a small lawn we put in just for her that we take for her to potty. Is that area now contaminated or can she use it still?
Should I be worried about my people children. We encourage hand washing before meals and after playing with the dog.
oh my GOSH!!?? really!??? I have never heard of this!?? Poor girl!!
I use a monthly heartworm med every 5 weeks, but that is for a different kind of worm I believe... I hope someone informed chimes in SOON to help you out! YIKES!!
Sawyer had tapeworms...which came out the other end. But I would take her to the vet so they can determine what type of worm it is. The monthly stuff only kills certain types and I don't know if there is another way for you to figure out what kind your pup has. The treatment from the vet was super easy. One pill one time.
Take her to the vet for a worm check. They can get a stool sample and tell you what kind. I do not have any knowledge of round worms in any of my dogs, but I did have tape worms once. I let the vet take care of that problem, had to have all my animals treated. I also called the pest control service and had the yard sprayed. Nearly all dogs are born with worms, so it is not anything to be embarassed about. Little children also get them from playing in the dirt where dogs potty. another reason to have your yard sprayed and the number one reason why I won't take Rosie to the new dog park her in Paris.
Nina has her own poo/pee lawn and does not use the back yard. I will get that treated. I have a lot of children and a very big lawn for them to play on and Nina does and has ran all over that playing fetch. She does walk, on the leash, on the property and occasionally go pee and poo there. There is no way we could spray that all.
don't know if you all watch the show, 'the monster inside me', but it's all about humans getting parasites. anyway, turns out snails are often part of the life cycle of worms, and many other parasites. my little guy as a puppy, always brought me one, every morning from the yard. yup, he had worms. and I had to do it two separate times, when he was under a year old. always in the stools though. I'd freak out if he threw up worms. I agree go to the vet to get a stool sample, so you can be sure the meds are killing whatever worm your pup has.
Paw Nation has a story today on the diseases that our pets can pass on to us. It is worth reading. I guarantee you will do a lot more hand washing after reading.

Can you see the worms in her poop? did you feed her rice by any chance? I have never given store worming meds how would you really know what kind of worm it is.? Does it look like the same kind she had when you got her?
She threw up worms and they were alive. She had a bowl movement today and it had the death worm, killed by yesterday's med, in it. Grosss!
