Nosework

Started Sophie in nosework. Her first class is tomorrow. She has great focus and ignored all of the toy distractors, good girl!
Sophie says "About that box that got stuck on my head....I meant to do that"

Love it! I've held off on starting Kodi (and now Pixel) in nose work just because of lack of time. (and money for lessons and trials!!!) It's something I'd love to do someday, but I figure it will be a great "retirement" sport for Kodi!

I absolutely LOVE to watch scent dogs work, and we DO get to play with it a little, while working on scent articles in Utility.

I'm sure both Kodi and Pixel will love it. It's such a nice sport because almost every dog can do it, reactive, disabled, fearful etc. It saved Hallie and my sanity when she went blind, it was the one thing (that and her painting) where she was fully in charge again and she was so happy when we were doing it. She titled 2 January's ago and came in 8th out of 33 sighted dogs and won the Harry Award (The Harry Award is given to the most outstanding rescue dog that demonstrates extraordinary ability and spirit in nose work at the NW1 level.) It was amazing to watch her work knowing she was completely blind.

Have you and Kodi been in the utility ring yet or still working? My longhaired doxie before Hallie, Jessie, was #1 in obedience in Hound Group in US and had 44 OTCH points and multiple HIT's then just after turning 4 had the dreaded doxie back issue and I immediately retired her. Hallie and I only did novice and Rally novice (she was ILP'd) because I wouldn't jump her even though jumps are low. But she loved it too. It feels very strange after many years of doxies that I will not have to worry about the jumping with Sophie.

We're just learning Utility... Working at Pre-open. Unfortunately, the group stays were ruined for us by a bad experience... (Being jumped by a cattle dog and scared to death). We keep working on it, but I suspect he'll have his PUD before he has his CD. . We fot about half our RAE legs, but I got tired of AKC rally after the more challenging WCRL rally. (He's got his ARCHMX in that) soeday we'll probably finish up the RAE, but at the moment, we're too busy with obedience (AKC and CDSP). Kodi is my first dog, though I've trained horses all my life. So he has had to put up with all my beginner mistakes!

Sophie is such a cutie and was fun to see her in the video.

That nose work practice with boxes looks like it could be a fun game to do just for fun with our dogs! You could expand and vary it a lot just to give them some brain work, don't you think?
