Gamblers is a 'game' event of sorts in USDAA. Basically, you have x amount of seconds to gather up 'points' based on the obstacles, and then you go do the 'gamble' after those seconds are up... the gamble is behind a line that you (handler) cannot pass and you have to send your dog to do whatever the combination is. So basically, if you saw the video of Paco's gamble run, we had 25 seconds in the 'opening' half of the run to gather 13 points. Each obstacle has a different point designation, and you can do them each 2x. Jumps were worth 1, dog walk 3, tunnels 2, and the Aframe 5. (each gambler course will have different point designations on each obstacle depending on the judge's decision). After we got our 13 points, we kept going until the buzzer sounded, signifying the end of our 25 seconds, therefore making it time to move onto the 'gamble' ( i dont think you can move onto the gamble without having gotten your points in the first part). For the gamble, you''ll notice the pink line on the ground- i stayed on one side of it, while Paco did the combination of the blue tunnel, and the two jumps.
Hope that makes sense!!! haha
Paco is getting better about not having treats in the ring bc I really give him a TON when he finishes (if he does well), so he looks forward to that
I give him treats right up until we walk in the gate to start our run, though!
