grumbles for love?

Do any of your Neezer's "Ghrrrr" for your attention?

Jasper just followed me from room to room for a half hour (remember he is my independent guy) every time I would stop he would stare and give a little ghhr. Finally when I sat down on the computer to do some work he sat 7 feet away staring at me and grumbling. If I looked away he grumbled a bit louder. Mind you he has done this if he needs something, he's done it for "walks" for "water" for "hungry" I know what he is asking for because I will go through all the words and when I hit on the right one he comes and paws me and gets excited. Believe me I did not teach this and couldn't figure out how to...But Jasper has learned to grumble for his basic needs. But in this case he has done his biz, his water bowl is full and he just ate. So after a few "Just talk to me tell me what it is you want" talks I picked him up and took him to the couch, where he covered me in kisses (maybe he did want food) and then just relaxed there while I gave him a little massage. Of course not to be left out Cash joined the love fest. 20 minutes later, no more ghhhrrs.

What's funny is Jasper sits from afar and demands with his eyes and grumbles. Where as Cash will just invade your space if he wants something. How does your Hav ask for love?

Oh, that's really sweet, Missy. Is the ghrr kind of like a low growl? Marble does that when he's impatiently waiting for a treat or wants some kind of attention. He also does this thing sometimes when we're on the couch. He starts making these high pitched squeals and stares at us. He really seems to be trying to talk.

All four of mine ask in a different way for attention.

Preston is the whiner. He will whine and follow me through the house if I have put a collar on him, he knows he's going somewhere, and wants to be sure I don't forget him. lol He will sit at the couch and if he thinks I'm not paying attention to him, he will whine to get my attention. All my boys must sit nicely at the couch before I let them up.

Reece paws at us when he wants attention. He cries with excitement when one of us comes home.

Nigel wil sit, stand, sit, stand...like he can't stay still, wondering do you see me, look I'm being a good boy, can I have up now. Nigel is a big time lap dog, he loves to crawl up and sit in my lap and lay his head on my chest and gazes into my eyes.

Simon will stare at you with his beautiful eyes. He has the most amazing eyes, and he is so cute, who could resist.

If I am not paying attention to them and we are sitting on the couch, they will go to DH and get him to let them up and then come and lay their head on my couch and look at me with those pleading eyes. My DH calls it the gateway couch to me.

Peace, Love & Havanese

Missy~ Tori does what you describe if she wants your attention, or if she wants you to play with her. If you don't respond quickly enough to suit her, she'll come over and paw at you. She may also whine a bit when she's pawing. As soon as you respond and begin talking to her, she'll do the head tilt and usually the play stance w/her bottom in the air. I SO love the head tilt!!!

Funny! Loki doesn't do this yet but my cairn terrier does.

Also, I'm curious about the term "neezer". I've deducted it means dog but is it specifically for hav's?

Pam~ Actually in many countries in Europe they are known as Havanezer, not Havanese. Not sure, but this may be where the term Neezer comes from. But, you're right, Neezer=Havs!

I don't think the grrrr'ing and nose bumping is for love.. That usually means they want somthing.. well the grrr'ing anyways. When Beamer is really serious about something, he will start sneezing on purpose.. it's so funny... especially in the summer when we do not have socks on... a nice big juicy beamer sneeze all over your bare foot or whatever body part is pretty funny! lol
