Are ice cubes ok?

The other day I was getting ice out of the freezer and one cube escaped me and skittered across the floor. Baci ran after it with great joy and enthusiasm. He swatted it around the floor (which I thought was cute) then before I realized what he was doing he picked it up in his mouth and crunched it up! Now whenever I go into the freezer he waits there hoping he'll get another ice cube. I'm wondering if it's too dangerous. He certainly enjoyed the one that got away from me!

I have found the perfect dog. Baci: 4/30/2015

I've never heard of icecubes being harmful. It sounds like Baci had a good time and also got himself some water.

They CAN break teeth on ice cubes just like people. Mine just play with them and lick them, so I don't worry about it. If I had a dog that crunched them, I probably wouldn't let them have them.

Ricky LOVES to chew on ice. I asked our Vet about this and he recommends against it because it could crack the enamel on the teeth and then you have a significant dental problem. So we now freeze water in a Kong and let him lick the ice while it un-freezes. He chews on the outside of the Kong which wont harm his teeth and licks the ice. It is a Win/Win for everyone.

Ollie loves ice. We have a crush setting on the fridge and I use that.

Plug the small end of the Kong with a bit of peanut butter or soft cheese and then set it upright with the large opening up in the freezer. To make your dog really go nuts, smear some peanut butter over the large end opening too and let it freeze with the ice inside.
