Daisy's Bald Tail

How do show dogs live with other havanese? How does anyone maintain coat.

I looked at Daisy's tail and she has a section that is completely bald...that is the spot where Riki grabs her and shakes it as if it is a toy!

They are insane after they eat...running around the house...grabbing each other's coat and taking turns being the dominator. They crack me up but there is often hair floating around from the "play". I used to think I needed to save Daisy as Riki is bigger than her...but she jumps right back on him.

I love it when they both stand up on hind paws and bat with them. Too funny.

Do any of your pups take out coat like this?

I didn't just get havanese, I got a lifestyle!

Vinny and Lulu never pulled on each others hair, they just growled and wrestled. Along came Gabby girl! Lulu is missing about 3/4 of her mustashe/beard. Gabby also always grabs Lulu's tail and flips her around. I feel so sorry for Lulu but thank goodness Gabby can't jump on the couch yet. Lulu and Vinny have a safe haven for now

I don't know about the show pets, but my two constantly pull on each other's, their saliva mats the coats and I have a daily session to get the mats out and keep it managable, but it sure is a challenge.

Best, Poornima

Dasher has done quite a bit of damage on Dora's coat. He has rotated his choice spot though but as a puppy Dora suddenly went to no shoulder hair. With nothing left to grab, he moved on to ears. A year later and Dora's shoulder hair is about 3-4 inches but it is pretty obvious from some of her hair that is 7-8 inches long. The puppy teeth can wreak havoc very quickly. Same thing with the the cattle dog and Dasher's top knot!

None of my dogs have nice tails! That is the easiest thing to grab when they are doing RLH!!

Vinnie (the sheltie) engages Quince in RLH every day many times a day. Quincy doesn't hurt Vinnie's coat, but Vin sure does a number on Quincy's. All along Quincy's back his hair is shorter and really long on the sides and chest area. Quincy's center back hair is at least 5 inches shorter then it should be. His tail was missing a big section out of the end for a very long time...he is gaining some length back there, but nothing like it should be. It can be heart breaking and yet-----I have 2 happy dogs that play together and Quincy keeps Vinnie active and mobile(something important because of his bum leg/hip). I guess it is a trade off.

Julie, do you have a photo of them playing together?

I'll bet it is adorable. How old is Vinnie?

Greetings from the Havanese nut house!
So relieved to see your posts. I have half brothers, an 11 month old and a 4 1/2 month old. The older one (Bentley) had to be shaved about a month ago because his coat was so matted from Oliver The Evil biting, mouthing and hanging on to it. And Oliver has the most expensive tail in Florida now thanks to the Vet bills. Not quite sure what happened to the tail but it became hairless and scabbed. All told he was on 7 different medications and supplements. Had to wear a collar and I was instructed to keep them apart. Wonder what planet the Vet came from. I think it's getting better but who am I?
If he's healthy I can live with a wierd tail. It doesn't seem to bother him.

Since Jenna the Psycho Puppy rescue came to live with us, the RLH and play has been nearly non-stop. Dusty's coat doesn't seem to suffer at all, but Indie has been matted constantly and I find chunks of her coat all over the place. Fortunately it doesn't seem to show too much on her. She still has tons of hair. Her tail is fine too, thankfully. It is so long it drags the ground and I love it! I'd be very sad if the puppy chewed it off.
