Learn your name

Hello..

Question..

How long should it take for Beamer to learn his name? he has been here for 3 days now and I do not think he knows his name is beamer. Tried calling his name and if he looked or even half looked we gave him a treat. Looks like he is just responding out of coincadence.

Any proven methods to get him to learn his name?

Thanks!
Ryan

Smarty did not respond to her name until she was 3 months old, when she started puppy classes. She would get a treat for coming, now she really pays attention to her name. You might try a to say the name and then give a treat.

What name was he called at the breeders? Does he respond to that?

What we did(Quincy was 16weeks)was go out in the yard.My daughter sat at one end,me on the other. We sat on the ground. Both of us had treats. She would say "Quincy come" and he would run to her(she clapped a little too)but no other words........when he came,he got a tiny piece of treat(break it and make it smaller)and then I would do it etc.We did this back and forth for both Quincy and Vinnie. They soon learned their names!

We used to play Hide and go seek when we first got Brutus. One of us would hold Brutus and the other would go and hide around the corner and call "Where's Brutus?" Brutus would come running and get a treat when he found us. It could be worth a try.

Time........your Beemer has gone thru ALOT of changes in the past few days. He was taken away from the only home he has ever known, away from his mom and littermates. All of his scents and surroundings have changed. He is having to readjust to everything new. He now has these new people saying something to him over and over and over......
Just be patient with him. He will learn his name in time! Did the breeder happen to have his hearing checked? If you know his hearing is fine, then just continue to be patient and calm with him. If you are upset in anyway while you are calling his name then he will not want to respond to it~!
Our little Mochi (who goes home today!) learned her new name in a few days. I said her name to her each time I picked her up, each time she came to me while we were playing, everytime I put her back in her x-pen. Basically every time she and I made contact. And I always tried to have a happy sing-songy voice when I would say her name. Now when she is out running and playing and I call "Mochi" she will look at me and sometimes come running!
And now I need to get myself in the habit of calling Sarah by her new name, Roxie!!

Maybe he doesn't like his name .. or maybe you are saing it too often . I know that Cosmo responded to his name right away as did Asta .
Within two days they were coming to me . The first time I said Cosmo he looked at me like OK I guess that's me ..
I read an article that there are some names that they respond to better than others ..

Probably Beamer's just not cooperating with learning his name , but that can be a sign of a hearing problem. Friends of ours recently had a guide dog puppy (they are puppy raisers) who turned out to be completely deaf. The first clue they had was that he didn't know his name. I'm sure it's unlikely that's the problem, but if Beamer continues not to learn his name, or you notice other things, you should check into it.

I doubt he is deaf.. he responds to noises.. when i clap he turns his head.. He just wont come to Beamer. sometimes he comes, but that might just be by chance. How long should it take for him to learn his name?? I want it to happen NOW!! My wife says I'm crazy and he will lern it eventually. Isnt 'eventaully' to long?

HELP!!

Plus, its hard to train him further if he does not know his name!!
