Luna got spayed today

My 7-month old got spayed today. She's a mess. Whimpering and not acting at all like herself. I know it's supposed to pass but I feel like I have no way to comfort her. Vet said to hold off the pain medicine until tomorrow night since they gave her some via injection. She took a bit of water from a spoon from within her cone and I'm going to try to give her a bit of food (1/3rd normal feeding) and see if she'll take it.

I have a onesie on the way for delivery tomorrow. Maybe that'll help her be more comfortable.

As long as she is supervised you can take the cone off for a bit. It will be easier for her to drink or eat a little. I gave my Molly breaks from the cone if I was with her. The onesie will help a lot. I did keep the cone on at night so I could be sure she wasn't trying to lick or bite through the onesie. She will be feeling much better in no time.

Poor baby. That's a pitiful face. I'm not looking forward to Lola's spay in a few months.

A onesie is a single piece garment you can put them in to prevent them from licking the incision. It's like the ones that babies get put in except it has a flap so they can do their business.

It is EXACTLY the same as a baby's onesie... Because that's what they are for. The snaps that would open up to changa baby's diaper become the snaps that can be opened to allow the dog to pee and poop. You just put it on the dog backwards (i.e., with the front of the onesie on the dog's back). Then you leave the middle snap unsnapped to leave room for the tail to poke through.

Oh that just breaks my heart...so can only imagine how you feel! Precious girl. I have often taken a cone off while holding a dog child to give them a break too
Please let us know how she feels tomorrow I just want to hug her.
Sophie is getting hers done in a month or so. We're doing it laporasopically (I was "spayed" this summer lol with laporascopy and literally didn't know I had surgery no pain at all)

Glad you and Luna have this behind you and hope she is feeling much better.

Luna is driving us crazy with the cone. During the day we had her in the onesie, which was a pain to unsnap every time we went out, but we thought it best to out her in the cone at night. She banged all around her expen, barked, whined, and kept me up all night. I'm afraid to let her use the onesie at night because she might find a way to get to her incision and then she might have to go pee. Ugh.

Hey, glad you took the bold step. I wouldn't advice for you to get the cone off and not especially at night where you might not be able to watch her. Am sure she'll be okay. Just keep an eye on her and especially do not let her do any sort of streneous exercises. I am sure she's probably still drowsy and sluggish but just watch her. Also keep checking the wound just to make sure she's healing and that there are no complications.

Poor thing. If you stay by her and watch her, you won't need the cone. Ours never even tried to go for her stitches but someone was with her constantly for a couple of days. Also, her onesie helped. As soon as you can, please give her the pain meds. Hope she feels better soon! xoxoxo's
