New puppy!

We are meeting this little guy on Sunday and possibly taking him home! He is just over 8 weeks old.

He looks like he has a lot of tear staining already around his beard. Does anyone have any experience with a puppy this young having that? Is it due to teething mostly?

It's really hard to know for sure... Most Havanese puppies with white faces have some staining until after they finish teething. Some have it all their lives, where it clears up nicely for others. It can also be influenced by food and water supply.

My new puppy, even though she's a B&W parti, has white on her face, and has some tear staining. Her father, who she resembles, grew out of it, and as an adult has no staining. So I've got my fingers crossed that she will take after him!

We had the tear staining at 10 weeks and it is getting better now at 5 months. I didn't change the food but have been giving this supplement. Not sure if it is the supplement that is making the difference or the fact that the teething and the vaccinations are over.

So cute!

It might be from the local water, I'd try bottled or purified and see if that helps, something else you can do is put corn starch on the hair that is getting stained a few times a day (that will just help it dry quicker, which is one reason why it stains..being wet more than it is dry)

What a cutiepie! I too am battling staining although mine is a saliva stain and not so much tear staining. In my eyes, she is still beautiful evening with the staining.

So cute! Since he's so young, I'm guessing the stains are from nursing.
