Mixing up the routine

We have a very routine lifestyle and our dogs seem to enjoy the anticipation of the next regularly scheduled meal or walk or play time but sometimes I like to mix it up. I often rotate the toys that are available for them to play with but yesterday I dumped out the motherload of all the toys and let them forage for the ones they wanted to keep out. Today I put their breakfast in the rolling treat dispenser balls which they happily chased around the house.

What do you do to mix up the daily routine?

Do you have a Westie and a Havanese? Which one is older? I'm curious how a Westie and Havanese get along. We had a Westie before Rudy. My husband would like to get another Westie when Rudy is a little older. I want another Havanese when Rudy is 1/2 or 2 years old. This way he can help with the puppy.

Our older dog is a Cairn Terrier. He is 6 years old. He hates all dogs except our new pup Ruby which is a big relief. He is so patient while she jumps, humps and bites him all over! It has made his life a lot more fun. We have had Cairns for 20 years and I appreciated their independent spirit but now I love having a velcro pup who follows me to the bathroom and takes a bite out of the toilet paper in my hand!
Sheri and HavaGee like this.

Can you please share some details on the treat dispenser balls? That sounds like something Maggie would really enjoy !

There are a few on the market but this brand is very easy to fill and is quite sturdy:

Molly enjoys the Treat Tower that was recommended by another forum member.

Our Westie was the same way. Rudy has such a sweet disposition.

Will kibble stay in the treat dispenser ball? Rudy eats so fast. Maybe this will slow him down.

Eveningpiper, your two look so cute looking up at you. It's like they're waiting for the "go ahead and play" signal.

Our kibble works well in the treat ball and the tower which we also have. I find the tower a little harder to fill but the up side is that it doesn't roll under furniture.
