Whining when givin a treat.

Okay so here is another question that I would like to find an answer to!

When our 5 month old Havanese is given Beef Flavourd Dentabone(only) he LOVES THOSE absolute favorite nummy, he whines with it in his mouth and he won't sit still, he'll jump from couch to couch (with it in his mouth) and just won't sit still. Can't figure out why hes doing this??!? Anybody have had this happen? Its like he is soo excited but not hungry and not sure what to do with it...hmm?
It's just weird......hmmmmmmm

My German Shepherd used to do this too, but I think it was because my Cairn Terrier was always on the prowl to steal his treats so he got anxious if he didn't want to eat it right then and couldn't find a place to hide it. Are there any other pets in your household that could be threatening his treats? If not, maybe you're right in that he's super excited and just doesn't know what to do with himself. Does he whine during other situations when he's excited as well?

No he never whines, except for when he's got to pee. There are no other dogs in the house just a quiet old cat, that is so sick of our pup at this moment that he keeps him self in stealth mode. He has done this twice now where he whines and just doesn't sit still. I dont beleive the cat is threatening him at all, yeah he loves his dentabones even more so then his actual treats, so Im thinking that he just loves them but is maybe not hungry and scared Ill take it away if he doesn't eat it, because the one day he hid it in the couch for about 30 seconds and gave in and ate it!!! lol.
I ended up tonight just breaking him off a lil chunk that way he could have the best of both worlds!

Any other suggestions?

I'm not sure -- my boy makes a sound sometimes when he gets treats, but it's not quite a whine, but is a different kind of noisy, but only sometimes. My boy does sometimes love to run around the room with a treat in his mouth before consuming. When he is doing this, he is showing off that 'he' has a special treat (even though his sister has the same thing!)

Please make sure he chews it well and doesn't swallow in hunks. I used to give greenies (never anymore) and found that my boy who isn't big on chewing, had chewed off a big hunk and swallowed it. It went thru completely undigested and could have caused problems. I saw the big hunk come out the other end and my guys have never had this again.

Hmmm... that's strange, but it sounds like you're probably right that he's scared you may take it away if he doesn't eat it so he's getting anxious. Do you take them away if he doesn't eat it right away? Maybe you could create some kind of designated hiding spot for him to put his dentabones in. Or maybe you could only give him one when you know he'll probably be a bit hungry, like half way between meals. Lol, crazy little Havs...

Hmmmm. Loki whines when he squeeks a squeeky toy-not always but usually. No idea why.

Brady does this with flossies sometimes. He is looking for a place to hide it. If I let him take it outside, he will burry it and get it later. Usually, he will settle down eventually and hide it in the couch or somewhere, or just eat it.

haha, I like hearing all of your stories. Yes my litle guys chews it up, he chews it up so well that he leaves little crumbs EVERYWHERE. He is such a lil character. When he whines with it for too long I do take it away from him, or I break a tiny piece off and give it to him. I ended up giving the rest to him tonight, no whining just eating but he has done it twice now where he whines and runs haha lil turd.

Dexter has done the whining (whimpering) thing for a long time when he has his favorite toy and when he has a really good treat. He paces about the house with his treasure and whines (whimpers) for a few minutes, then he stops the whimpering.

Rosie did this with Pigs ears and nearly drove me crazy. She never did eat them. Just whined and ran from place to place to find a place to hide it. No one place was good enough. After the second one, I gave the rest of the bag to the yard dog. The next incident was with the chicken gizzard I gave her. She immediately began to whine and start looking for a place to hide it. That was two months ago, and we haven't found it yet. That cured me from giving her anything except bite-sized pieces of raw food.
