Belly Bands

Has anyone made their own belly bands? They look simple to sew but I'm wondering if you should use something special inside to make them extra absorbent.

Yes! I used hubbby's old tube sock- measured to fit around the belly, cut off the extra but leave a little to overlap. Sew velcro on the ends- stick a maxi pad onto the sock so the pad will sit directly on the penis (don't insert the pad into the sock). This way, the pad can be changed and you don't have to wash the belly band each time they pee- so easy and cheap!!
Here is a pic that someone sent to me, this is what I used to go by to make mine-

Those came out pretty cool! I gotta check the DH's drawer, but I don't think he has any tube socks! All the ones he wears now have heels.

yes- the heel part is what you cut off!!
So you are left with just the long straight part of the sock-

I've bought them on eBay and they're great. I can take a photo of it if you like. It has a cotton fabric on the outside and fleece on the inside with stitching all around it to keep it from rolling over. I then insert half a poise pad on the inside. It wicks the fluid away from him.

Oooh I'd love to see a picture! How much of it overlaps? Is it the wide velcro--like 3 inches?

Hubby wants us to take the dogs out of town and stay in a motel and I KNOW Rufus would want to mark, so the boys need bands IF we go! Do you see the BIG IF? I just don't know....nervous! We'd have to leave them for a short while in the motel (or is it a hotel?) and my heart is just twisting over this!

Pam makes them from microfleece and uses 2" velcro. She makes them to fit a particular sanitary pad and wider than the typical commercial ones.

Here is a pattern you can adjust for the size of your boy. It also has the girl panties.

I'll get you a photo later in the day. Yes it's the wide velcro and it overlaps a lot (depending on the size of the dog).

Julie makes bunches of them and emailed her 'instructions' to me, but I already made a few for my two. I basically measured out a rectangular shaped pc. of fabric, like the pattern that Sandi refers to, sew hems all around, sew velcro at each end - making sure I have the measurements right - and stick a pad on, that can be changed when/if wet.

Katie, I read about your bands a long while ago, in other threads, but I still haven't tried to use tube socks. It is definitely cheap, still looks good AND functional, so I'll have to try it out if and when I need more.

Christy, I totally sympathize with you!!!!
