Is your dog in your will?

My apologies for such a morbid topic on a Friday but we are in the process of setting up our wills/living trust. Have any of you included care for your pets in yours?
I know our breeder wants to be contacted if anything happens to us and we are unable to care for our dogs so I suppose that should be stated somewhere unless I direct that the girls are to go to a specific person and set aside a sum for their care.
Just curious what others have done.
I don't want this attorney to think we're crazy.

Susan
Not sure if this should be here or in another area but I'll start here and it can be moved if needed.

Yes - we do!!!

We just went on a trip to CO with entire family - first trip in a long time that we were all together and I wrote up a will that week leaving our Havs to our Puppy Nanny - she loves them so....and 20K to care for them for their life....figured if we were all gone the boys should at least live in style!!!

Oh the things we do....if you told me I would have been doing this a year ago I would have told you that you were nuts....and here I am with 2!!

Susan, it is not morbid to bring this up because, just like our human children we want to ensure our pups are also cared for if, heaven forbid, anything were to happen to us. Actually come to think of it, I better revise mine to specifically mention care for Oreo. That is such a great point Susan, i am glad you brought it up.

Cheers to you for thinking of and taking care of your babies once you no longer can!

My husband is an attorney here in Florida and, unfortunately, not very many people make provisions for their beloved pets. I can tell you that we did!

I also agree that this is an important post. We have verbally talked about it but didn't put into the paper work. The girls would both go to my in laws (just like they do every time we vacation!) and be taken care of. It is something we definetly need to put into writting though.

Thanks for bringing this up. I haven't included her in my will yet, she's still a puppy, but I will definately talk to my husband about it and make sure she's taken care of exceptionally well, I think leaving $$ for care is a great idea too! I'll surely do that.

So far we have a verbal agreement that if my kids are not in a position to take the pups that my girlfriend will take them on with no problems. I know that I dont have a problem with family wanting them, as none of them have dogs or understand my love for my babies. She just did her will this week stating that we would get her pups if her kids are not around or do not want or are not in a position to take them. I am glad to know that she will take them if the kids can't as they love her and her hubby like their second mommy & daddy. It is VERY important to make sure they are accounted for. They are considered an "asset" but I consider them my children!!
