DON'T DO THIS !! ALMOST LOST BISCUIT!!

I cannot believe my own stupidity. Today I was unloading each dog at the groomer's separately. Heath was still in the car and Biscuit was on his leash & harness w/me. As we got to the door of the groomer's (which he loves) I took off Biscuit's harness & opened the door for him to enter.

Now Biscuit is a very very obedient, compliant dog. Well, instead of going inside, he took off at a full run AWAY from me, into this busy parking lot that abuts a busy 4 lane road. I couldn't believe it! And I have this injured leg and couldn't chase him! No one was nearby to help.

I called & took a step in his direction and he ran farther! TOWARD THE BUSY ROAD!! He had a really rebellious look in his eye . I have only seen that look when he was a puppy. So I used reverse psychology and headed toward my SUV and said casually, let's go in the car. He was FAR away by then, but turned around and ran happily toward me. Thank goodness, and he jumped in my arms.

This story could have easily had a tragic ending. Don't take anything for granted with these dogs, cause they are DOGS.

HAV A GREAT DAY ! ~~AMY & BISCUIT~~
and HEATH-Y, TOO !

How scary!
The reverse psychology was a great idea. It let him know that you were not going to play "chase", and that he might get left if he didn't come!

YIKES, THAT IS SO FRIGHTENING! YOU DID THE RIGHT THING THOUGH. WHEN MY GUYS PULL THAT NUMBER ON ME, I RUN THE OTHER WAY AND TELL THEM TO RUN. WORKS LIKE A CHARM. I'M GLAD YOU HAD A HAPPY ENDING AND THAT BISCUIT IS OK!

Amy, I can truly empathize with you. There is nothing more terrifying than your fur baby in harm's way and there's nothing you can do to help him. Thank God he came when you turned to go back to the car. I don't think that would have worked for Milo.

Amy, that is scary. I am glad that you did what you did and Biscuit is safe. I had the same scare was when Benji wriggled out of the leash on our walk when he was a puppy and ran away from me. I rememberd that he always ran to me to lick my face when I was on my knees on the floor. I dropped to my knees on the sidewalk and jingled the treat box. He ran back to me, licking my face. I grabbed him and held him tight!

Best, Poornima

Oh Amy I'm so happy Biscuit is ok, what a terrifying experience.
Thank you for posting. I will be extra careful and very aware when I let Ditto out the car door no matter where we are.
