Hawk kills a Chihuahua in Apex, NC

I'm sure others have seen this already, but it's a good reminder that our little guys, especially a young puppy are vulnerable to air attacks by birds of prey. So sad for this family.

So very sad ...I never let Truffles in the backyard before she was a year old because of the hawks.

How awful for the family! Though Mario makes his potty outings quick, we make sure he's almost always being supervised when outside. There was an incident a few years back in which a hawk actually began circling him...scary stuff!

With Molly only being 6.5 lbs. I am with her at all times. We have eagles, hawks, owls, foxes, and other various critters that might think she is just the right size for a meal!

This is definitely a sad story and a reason why we should be careful letting our pets out on their own. Would pet pens help in any way? Or rather I've seen some kind of outdoor enclosement for cats in the outdoor and i am wondering if this could be used for the dogs as well.

So sad! I have a friend who lost a miniature poodle to an owl.
