5 month old won't eat dog food at all!!

Okay. So I have a RFH puppy. 5 months old. Got her at 9 weeks, she had diarrhea for the first 3 months and would hardly eat. She would not eat the kibble that Royal Flush Havanese insisted she eat or any other kibble. Due to the stomach issues, the vet told me to stop the kibble and give her burger or chicken and rice. I did this for 4 weeks, no more diarrhea. However, now she won't eat anything else. I have tried umpteen brands of kibble. She just won't eat it. She obviously prefers a wet diet. So I tried honest kitchen today and she won't eat that, nor will she eat any canned food. Surely I can't be cooking her burger every day!!! Also, the less she eats, the more aggressive she gets. Any help appreciated.

Have you tried wetting the kibble? Also do you put the food down at mealtime and take it away after 10 minutes or so if she hasnt eaten it? Then just put it down at the next mealtime and try again. Dogs will not starve themselves if food is available to them. I know your puppy has had a rough start with the Giardia and diarrhea issues. You can also consider a raw diet. This way you just defrost the patties or add water to it if it is freeze dried. It is nutritionally balanced and you don't have to cook. I have a picky eater so I know how frustrating it can be. Good luck!

Molly also hates canned food, Honest Kitchen, raw patties, and many brands of premium kibble. Through trial and error I found a kibble she will eat. She eats it moistened with water and topped off with freeze dried raw. Because she is so tiny I worried about her if she went too long without eating. For a normal size Havanese I would think you could let them skip meals if they are being finicky and wait them out until they eat what you want to feed them.

One more option to try is refrigerated dog food on top of kibble. I use Freshpet Select, which comes in a refrigerated tube and is a five star rating on petfood advisor. The texture of the refrigerated dog food is interestingly different from canned food. I mix three different kibbles together and add three tablespoons of the refrigerated stuff.

Fortunately, this brand (the select version, they have several variations but select is the top rated one) is in my local grocery store as well as some pet stores and even Target.

I can only imagine how frustrating it is to keep trying different brands!

I just started Willow on Honest Kitchen. There are multiple blends with different proteins and some without proteins which you add your own to. Some contain grains and some are grain free. Willow was picky with her kibble. However, with the Honest Kitchen she licks the bowl clean. You say that your puppy prefers a wet diet. Honest Kitchen is wet as it is dehydrated and you have to add water and lit it sit for 3 minutes or so before giving it to the dog. If you go to the Honest Kitchen website, some of the blends are available in 1 once samples for $1. I tried several on Willow before purchasing a big box.
