Needed insights on Christmas

How do the Havs adjust to the Christmas tree, ornaments? I do not want to put one up and then Dexter get into trouble with one...like chewing on things, swallowing things, rolling things around, destroying things....your experience is welcome.

Riley totally ignores the tree. I guess it depends on the dog. I wouldn't put small fragile ornaments within his reach and definately wouldn't use tinsel. I think Riley would go for the tinsel... I use garlands.

Hobbes could care less about the tree but if I put any wrapped gifts under the tree well lets just say wrapping paper shreds really well.

My girls notice the tree, Smarty lays under it, Galen tries to hid her bones under the skirt, but they have not bothered it at all.

I haven't had any issues with Santos at all. I don't even know if he's noticed the tree.

Chico tore our tree apart last year and I can't say his behaviour is any better this year. I only put unbreakable ornaments on the bottom half of the tree and those he didn't remove he chewed up. We are having a puppy to visit over Christmas this year so I am putting an x pen around the tree. Several years we had a puppy who removed and ate glass ornaments. The vet told us to take cotton batten in tiny pieces and dip it in some kind of fat. We used bacon fat and the glass passed through without any problems.

Mine couldn't care less about it. It just went up yesterday and doesn't have any ornaments on it yet, guess we'll see what they do when it's finished tonight. Last year Scooter left it alone but liked the tissue paper and ribbons.

I posted this picture in body language thread as well - this is Kipling's first Christmas and we were worried about what he'd do about the tree. So far he's sniffed it and we've moved the odd ornament that we definitely don't want mistakenly sampled...but he basically seems like he couldn't care less. See how innocent he looks? Now once gifts go under I suspect we'll have a different story...

Tess doesn't go near the tree. Cody however is a different story. I don't put any ornaments within his reach and I've sprayed the lower section of the tree in bitter apple to keep him from sampling anything. When I'm gone during the day I cover the skirt and presents with a towel so he doesn't eat or mark anything. Make sure not to have any pointsettia (sp?) within reach since they are poisonous.
