Kindle help needed?

Today my Mom who is 87 said she would like a gift certificate to one of the book stores for Christmas. The majority of her time is spent reading. So for you that have a Kindle or a like device would a person who has never been on a compute be able to search and download books ? My Mom is still very sharp, but her eye site and hearing are beginning to go. Would she be able to read this as well as a normal print book?

Thank you for any input this could be a great Christmas present for her.

Sandi, I don't have one, but I hear they are pretty intuitive. Does your mom use other electonics? how is she with a cell phone? or Cable remote?

I hear you can change the font sizes so that would be good for your Mom. Is there anyone who could download the books etc for her?

My mom just got one. You can make the fonts bigger and you can order new reading material right from the Kindle. She really is enjoying it. I think your mom would be fine with it. My mom also said it will read the book to you.

My Mom does use a remote and the VCR. I could download the books for her but the main reason was to let her shop for what she wants to read.

I don't have a Kindle yet but it is the only item on my Christmas list so I know DH will make sure I get it. My mom died 6 years ago but she was very technically savy. She loved her computer as it was a wonderful way for us to communicate. I know she would have loved a Kindle and if your mom can operate a vcr I'm sure she will be able to browse for, and download books! Let us know how it goes.

I recently let my 81 year old aunt borrow my Kindle. She had no problem reading the screen. My aunt uses a computer to surf the internet and can send emails. With the Kindle, she had difficulty using the toggle to navigate. She found when she left her book and went to another book she had trouble getting back to the last page she read. She decided it wasn't for her. Anyway you could let your Mom try one out? I am sure Amazon would let you return it if it did not work out.

Thanks that may the way I go, it just seemed to be so perfect for her if she can navigate through the process.

It's so easy to use Sandi! She can make the font larger if she needs to and it's so easy to search for and download books. My husband has one and thinks it's the greatest thing ever and he's a techie. He bought the original and would like the newer one so when he does buy it I'll get his old one. (I'm looking forward to it!)

You can also download newspapers, it gets much better reviews than the other E Readers and everyone I know who has one loves it.
