Can dogs catch Strep?

...Or Mono, or NIHI? I have been sick since last Wednesday and I can't seem to shake it. I am waiting on a strep test, but it just occurred to me...should I not be letting the boys lick my yogurt or soup spoon?

I think my neighbor's grandson got strep from his dog! They couldn't figure out how he kept getting it so often and finally figured it out that the dog had it but didn't seem to be sick. I think he was a carrier, though. This has been a long time ago so I could have my facts screwed up......lol But, I "think" that's what happened!

Last Feb. I got the flu really bad and I remember 1-2 days Casper had diarrhea all over the house during my flu. I was really sick and I had to go around and clean up with the shampooer after him, it was really hard.

But now I look back and I think he got the flu from me.

So, I am thinking they can get stuff from us and I did read something about the dogs getting the H1N1 flu.

I'm not sure whether they can or can't catch bugs from us but I just wanted to tell you I hope you're feeling a lot better soon.

I thought there were very few illnesses that could spread between animals and people, but there have been reports here locally recently of the flu spreading between dogs and owners. I don't believe it's been H1N1, but the seasonal flu.

I sure hope you're feeling better soon Missy.

The Oregon Veterinary Medical Association doesn't list strep as being a zoonotic disease.

Here's the link to their Zoonotic Diseases & Dogs page

Here's what the CDC says about zoonotic diseases: Diseases from Dogs

oh gee, it hadn't occured to me that they could have given me a sore throat...I was more concerned about giving it to them.
