Those of you who get snow

Where do your dogs potty during the winter months?

Bumi has a pee pad available to him at all times, but he will not use it unless he is alone or at night and can't hold it no longer. If we are home with him, he refuses to use the pad and will ask you to take him out.
We had our first snow on the ground this week and Mr. Bumi does not like it, he sill circle around it, eat some but will not step on it. Lucky us, we have a big boat sitting on its trailer on our driveway, so I pick him up and take him to potty under the boat. I wonder what would I do if that boat was not there?

Also, he refuses to wear any coat, sweater, hat, and I assume boots. Even his collar. The minute you put it on he turns into a zombie and won't move. His eyes wide open staring at you as if you have electrocuted him.

Any suggestions as of how to get him use to the winter clothing?

I used to shovel an area for my guys. Now they absolutely love the snow and just go right in it.
Fred hates clothes, but eventually he will move. I put his coat on when it's really cold and right before his walk. He gets so excited for the hike, he forgets he's wearing the coat!

I shovel a path for my dogs, and also shovel and area in the grass so they have someplace to go. This week in the blizzard, I had to shovel everytime I took them out.
They go on command, so it doesn't take them very long to do their business and we come back inside (thank goodness!)
Sometimes they like to stay and play in the snow though...depends on their mood, and how cold it is.
And they don't wear coats or boots.

Milo goes out - no matter what the weather. He doesn't use his coat unless he's going for a walk.

I try to shovel, or get one of my kids to shovel, part of the deck off the kitchen. I want to at least clear out the snow from the patio door so it doesn't all fall into the house every time the dogs go in and out. We'll start to create some hills along the edges of the deck and they'll have fun on those.

I'm not sure what to do to help Mr. Bumi figure out that the snow won't bite! lol Do you go out with him? Maybe bring a treat or some toy to distract him from what he's walking on...?

Desilu LOVES the snow. He runs full tilt and just bruies his face in it. He comes in absolutely CAKED with ice crystals though. I've tried a coat on him, but he's Houdini and gets out of anything I put on him. His favorite thing is to try to keep up with my border collie in the heavy snow but eventually her "footprints" (splash zones?) get too far apart for him.

My jack russell on the other hand goes out the door, pees on the side of the house and comes right back in. He's got it down to a science where he just circles and pees. I'm not even sure he ever stops moving. <VBG>

You might have to invest in one of those "pee stones" for Bumi. Tucker loves the snow and will eventually get around to doing his business. He takes forever finding he right place for both bodily functions. Now with the snow, it takes longer. Come to think of it, I just might have to invest in a "pee stone".

We've had some adjustment for Kodi too. He was OK when we just had an inch of snow on the ground, but we had enough snow yesterday that he had to leap through it like a porpoise. He also got such HUGE snowballs that he could hardly move from the weight of them, and was tripping over those attached to his chest hair. (We have a snow suit on the way!!!)

He is happy to use his litter box to pee in if I don't take him our due to weather, but he HATES pooping in the house. Because of that, He got used to a rain coat quite a while ago... He'd rather put up with that than poop in the litter box. He actually likes putting his rain coat on when it's raining hard now. He comes right over with his tail wagging when I get it out. So I don't think a snow suit will be much of an issue.

I think it's just a matter of lots of exposure, and making either clothes or collar and leash seem like a GREAT THING... lots of cookies, praise and fun. Kodi has always liked the collar and leash, because that means we're heading off on a long ramble, which he adores. Wearing his raincoat (or snowsuit when it comes!) means that he'll be able to spend longer outdoors playing with me.

mugsy likes the cold and snow and just runs into the yard. he takes his time sniffing and deciding.
kaylie hates the cold and the snow but will follow mugsy outside, she however is on the olympic speed peeing team and is out and back in milliseconds.
no coats or lifetime is limited and it takes forever to get mugsy in boots and nano seconds for him to remove them.

they also use pee pads in the house, in their room.

greetings from mugsy & me
