My Pups Have Fleas

OMG my pups have fleas. My daughter has brought fleas into the house from a dog she has rescued that doesn't even live with us. My pups are almost 8 months old and 11 lbs. Is it safe to use Frontline Plus on them? I use it on my Saint Bernard but the hav's seem to be more sensitive and they are just puppies. Should I use a special shampoo? I have NEVER had fleas in the house. HELP!

I am sure there is someone more experienced who will chime in, but Frontline is fine for puppies over 8 weeks I believe. I have used it on my 2 since they came home with me. I use it all year long. They also make a pill that you can get from your vet, I think it is called Capstar, that is supposed to kill any fleas on the dog within 30 minutes or so. My vet did not feel comfortable with Advantix. She said she had seen too many bad reactions from small dogs. I hope this helps. I am sure you can find past threads on this too if you do a search.

Almost forgot, make sure you use Frontline for dogs under 22 pounds.

Also a bath in Dawn dishwashing liquid should help. Make sure the soapy water goes up to their necks. This is a product that can be helpful as well

Hey Trudy. We battle fleas year round here. Murray was on Frontline Plus, but was still getting fleas, so we switched to Advantix. It seems to be working some better, but we are still having problems at about week 3 after applying it every month. At that point I have given CapStar a couple of times. The vet has suggested we change his anti-parasite med from Interceptor to Sentinel, as it has an oral anti-flea component and keep him on the Advantix.

The other option she suggested was Comfortis. I asked her about ProMeris, but she said there seem to be a lot of side effects with it and she wasn't really recommending it at this point.

We think he keeps getting them from the outside cats. He loves to play with them and I'm sure they have some fleas as they roam the nearby fields.

I have been battling fleas all summer. Right now my dogs are on Comfortis and the cats are on Frontline. I've been all through my house with flea sprays. Whatever you do, take a strong and fast approach to erradicating the little pests. I was a little lazy at first and by the time I got serious, I had an infestation!

We have been using Frontline Plus since the dogs were a couple of months old. However, once you have fleas, I recommend capstar. Paco had them once (even though he was on Frontline) and Capstar did get rid of them in a couple of hours.

Well, I have started Frontline Plus. They seem to be very comfortable and I have not been able to find a flea. I wonder if we may have a problem in the house now? I have been examining Watson (the white pup) and don't see a thing. Could this be all there is? Wouldn't that be nice!!!
