Cold cold weather and peeing help

Its pretty brutal weather here right now -40/50 wind chill -30 actual temp brrrrr (which is -40/50 wind chill USA temps and -20 actually)

Scooby has had more accidents in the last few days then in his entire puppy stage. (he is 8 months in 4 days) I have him in his crate right now and keep taking him out to go pee but he just sits down and looks at me.

He is not getting me up at night and it eating properly etc.

What on earth can I do. Seems everytime I look away, there is a puddle.

Yeah, I heard the weather in Calgary was crazy right now! How do you take Scooby out in -30 to -40 degree temps?? That is friggin COLD!! The weather might have something to do with it though... hmmm???

For sure the cold. When the torrential downpours start here on the west coast, we have a potty accident epidemic. I do just what you do. Get a cozy coat, take him out when you know he has to potty and if he doesn't, he gets to hang out in his cage.

PS have you ever tried to potty in the freezing cold. It is pretty hard to relax enough to let it out. I grew up in the NWT so I have MUCH experience with those sorts of things

Excellent advice! Exactly what I did with my two last winter when I was still in Quebec. Harley was the biggest baby when the weather was bad. I crated him but still kept him where the action was. Sometimes two or three times of 5 minutes outside and then 15 minutes in the crate until he went. He got it...no potties....no freedom.

I also had some issues when the snow was melting and they were unsure of where to go....watching the two of them trying to squat over the last remainder of snow was hilarious....and when it had all melted, it was retraining to a new surface. Frustrating and time consuming....but hang in there...these guys are smart!

Hello: I am in Calgary. Both our Hav's are 10 months. Have a door mat I keep in the garage, Have the pee smell on it . When it is time to go, put the mat in the pee location. Mat is warm, so both use it OK, but then run back to the house. It is meant to warm up later this week. Good luck.

Yikes. Send him to the south with me! Have you considered using pads with weather like that? I didn't even know it could get that cold where people live!!!

Me too. My dogs go on command. It would be harder with a puppy. It's pretty cold here too. Right now it's -8F...that's without windchill. (WHY do I live in Nebraska again??) They have a pee pad inside for when we're gone during the day. Miley will use it, but Copper holds it. When they go outside, they don't waste any time doing their business!!

Renee, Miley, & Copper too!

Oh my, do I have a battle on my hands. Ty for the advice. Gone 12 hours at this point, in his cage, I try him every half hour but he keeps running back in the house. But I know for sure if I let him out he will go pee straight on the carpet.
At least I know I am not alone. Maybe pee pads will have to be an option.

Our dogs usually choose to use the UGODOG when it is really rainy, snowy or cold.
