Hi! (and pics of new puppies!) - new photos on page 2

I am so excited to be on this forum! This is my first post and just wanted to say howdy! I'm Carol and a soon-to-be Havanese Mom.

Our new baby was born on Dec. 11th and I've only received photos of the puppies at one day old. Hoping to receive more today! We haven't decided on which puppy yet -- there are 3 boys and 1 girl. We have first choice.

I'm still reading about Havanese and especially trying to find differences in the personalities of males and females. In the past, we have had female Pekingese and currently have a mini Schnauzer, Kramer -- he is 10YO.

We are so excited! Our daughter wanted a puppy so much and we told her no way because she is going to college next fall and Kramer is enough for us. We are going to surprise her on Christmas! I have wrapped up a set of little dog dishes, a book we ordered on Havanese and a tiny little toy. We want her to open the gift and just KNOW what it is -- instead of writing a note or something.

Here are photos of the puppies at one day old -- I'm not sure about colors yet. I'm still reading about sable, brindle, bi-color, etc. Maybe someone can tell me what these babies are? The white one is the female.

They're adorable! I love the little pink feet in the last photo!

The sable (brown ones) will get lighter as their fur grows. Our Pixie was very dark brown when born, and she is now quite silvery grey - we think very pretty! Chances are the brown spots on the white puppy will also get lighter.

As far as female versus male, we can only speak for ourselves and say that the male (Rascal) is a real lap dog, and is happiest in a warm lap. The female (Pixie) doesn't want to be in our laps, but right nearby at our feet, or beside us on the couch. They are both very affectionate and sweet. I couldn't possibly choose between them.

First of all congratulations and welcome to the wonderful, wacky world of being owned by a havanese. They are the most delightful creatures and based upon my experience, in love with the whole world. Those puppies are adorable. I definitely see sable in a couple of the boys, with the guy on the right in your third photo an irish pied. The girl is a parti and I think she might be sable as well. Whatever they are, and whichever one you choose, you're a goner. I think you should also be aware of the epidemic of MHS (multiple hav syndrome) so you're likely to ultimately wind up with more than one.

Thank you for the replies! I was so excited over color ID and had to go look up what Irish Pied was again!

Going by colors alone, I tend to like the coloring on the lighter brown sable male. But we are going to wait until we meet the puppies and see their personalities before deciding. They cannot have visitors until after they are two weeks old...

The mom is all white with a little dark spot on back and face -- and the dad is mostly silver with white underneath and black on the tips of his ears. I think Mom is about 8lbs and Dad is 7lbs. Puppies had their dewclaws removed and second check-up at vet on day 3 and they weighed in at 6oz for girl and 7oz for all 3 boys.

I have seen a few posts on the MHS - LOL! I have a feeling I will definitely be affected by it!

I once had someone describe the difference between males and females as "the females love you but the males are IN love with you."

to the Forum! Like Geri said, they are the most delightful little dogs imaginable. If you're wondering about colors, here's Suzanne's page with tons of info and before/after pix.

Her entire site (link to the main page) is well worth any hav owner reading. It is filled with all things Havanese!

Like the other's have said, you will love your hav! Those are really small parents but the puppy's don't seem small. Just out of curiousity, where are you getting them from?
I love the sables! Boys? Girls? I have a boy and girl who are extremely loving and a girl who is more independent.

Vinny, Lulu, Gabby and Richie too!

Be yourself, everyone else is taken.

DorothyS -- I love the coloring on Pixie!

Leslie -- Thanks for that link! GREAT info there! I had come across the site before but didn't bookmark it. I have now!

Carole -- I am in love with the sables, too. One of the websites I read said that even though the parents may be small, the puppies will not always follow.
