Ideas for tick protection

Meeko had his first tick today, along his jawline. I feel around his head, ears and body every night but this little sucker was hooked on his jaw !!! Looking for some ideas for tick preventative that is safe-hate to use chemicals but I also don't want him to get Lyme disease. thanks.

I've used Vectra 3-D on Gracie for the past two years and haven't had any problems with her not tolerating it, or finding any fleas or ticks on her.

We have had no ticks with K9 Advantix II. My neighbors dogs have been positive for Lyme this year so I feel lucky that Molly is ok for now.

We use Revolution. I have never found a tick on Truffles, but have found a few on Scout's head. There are lot's of ticks around here.

Have any Advantix users had a smell? We tried it first on Tucker and he smelt like a freaking skunk the next couple of days! Pheeeew!

We also use Advantix. I first started using it on my corgi. She was always getting ticks when we would go camping but the Advantix stopped that completely. I now use it on Willow during the summer. I've never seen a tick on her but I now we have them around. As far as an odor, I've never noticed anything out of the ordinary. I don't know why Tucker would smell so bad after using it.

I have only used Revolution on Scout and Truffles. I have found a few ticks on his head. It's surprising Truffles hasn't picked one up since she is such a lowrider. Scout is so fluffy and I'm not sure how much of the vials liquid actually soaks into him. They go to the neighborhood park to run and play on the grass everyday. The deer hang out there at night so I think that's where he has picked them up. Sometimes there's herd in our front yard too. I don't know what else to use.
