RE: Havanese are the 8th most popular dog in NYC

LAst Saturday while Babaloo was in the Medical Center (NYC) I picked up some reading material that they were offering. There was an article of the top ten most popular dogs in New York. The Havanese was ranked 8 out of 10. Not bad. So the breed is making headway.

Of course I left the magazine on the chair when I went in to get Babaloo and I lost it. When I go back in a few weeks I will search high and low for it and try to scan it in. I think the number 1 was a Golden Retreiver or a Lab. Poodles, Llasa, and Zhitsu's were also part of the group.

There was also a an ad for a fabulous winter (down) jacket for Babaloo in Aqua and lined is a lime green.

I have to find the magazine. It wasn't a Pet Magazine, it was more like an area thing for pets.

I'm sorry the breed is becoming more popular. It encourages puppy mills to keep producing puppies. I still wish everyone said hava what.

DITTO

I saw a havanese pup in a pet store for the first time a few months ago. I wish they were still a rare and unpopular breed.

I see havanese pups in pet stores more often than I would like. It breaks my heart. For every cute puppy there are suffering parents, often living in squalor, caged for their entire productive lives and then . . . it's too horrible to contemplate.

I was in Petsmart today and there was a ****zu there that was shaved (just been groomed). Poor thing it was 26 degrees outside. My husband asked what that dog was and when I told him, he said why don't they just get a short-haired dog to start with. We never see yorkies or ****zus in full coats, the shelters are full of them. Soon they will be full of Havanese. That's why I just tell people I got Rosie from a shelter and that she is a mutt.

Not bad? Good news for puppy mills, bad news for Havanese.

Even our small town pet store had a Havanese for sale at Christmas. I was shocked - and the price was $600. In our town, where most folks don't pay much, if anything, for a dog, its a big price. But in the real world of Havs - its puppy mill price - compared to what I paid for Panda.....
