Hi my name is Denise. I thought I would introduce myself. My 6 month havenese is named Bear.
Let me start by saying, Iím a big believer in a good human and pet relationship starts with a kind of mutual selection.
He was about 6-8 weeks old at the time when I met him. I honestly wasnít intending on adopting a puppy that day. I was simply investigating the breeder and checking out her facilities. He was bouncing and playing with the other pups and of course when I walked in he instantly started to investigate the Ďnew humaní. I acknowledged him, but made sure I paid equal attention to all the available as I was talking with the breeder.
The thing about Bear was he was persistent, not in the way that all puppies are curiosity-persistent. More like a patient-persistent waiting for me to truly look at him. Of course when I did I couldnít just let him go I had to keep him.
I brought him home at the end of September. Since then I have learned more and more about Havenese, not just from him but also from reading this forum.
He gets walks several times a day. I take him to an obedience class once a week - not sure if they are more for me or for him some times. I was a little surprised by his velcro tendencies and Iím glad this is normal for the breed. I work from home so the only real challenge has been when I leave to go to the gym, run errands, and the like. Now that he is a little older he is asserting his independence, sometimes in not so good ways. Nothing like finding a throw pillow has been thoroughly mulled while I take my shower in the morning, because he is bored with is usual toys.
Regardless I love him - his puppy kisses, his ĎI didnít do ití looks among shredded kleenex, his moments of intense hyperactivity (my mom calls it doggie-ADHD), etc.
Here a few pictures of him being himself.
Thanks for this great forum.
