Scary incident with ex-pen

Hubby called me a work today to say Chi Chi got her jaw stuck in the expen. She was in there alone while he took out the trash and he heard her yelping and screaming. He ran back inside to find her jaw caught in between the wire. He was able to turn her head sideways and free her. Afterwards, she was fine, running and playing but he was shaken. We believe she was jumping to protest being left behind and somehow got hung up. She ate kibble and played with toys with no problem, but we took her to the vet anyway. He examined her and found nothing but gave her an inflammatory shot just in case.

I have been racking my brain trying to think of how this could havw been prevented. II have been working on curbing the jumping but obviously need more work. We have the Midwest expen. I'm wondering if there is another brand that has wider spaces.

This is a concern. Two youngsters having this happen in such a short time frame is indeed scary. I have Midwest expens also.

I know your feeling! REALLY SCARY! As the others here said, Tucker got his caught on his crate but he has never bothered with the xpen. He had it so wide Jackie actually thought his jaw was broken. Not sure of a solution. We were going to get a plastic crate but they were out of the one we wanted. Since the incident he still sleeps in the crate and has no fear of it but has never attempted to test the bite range on it anymore. His xpen is Precision brand. The holes are too high and the width is too small to get caught on to be unable to free himself. I think his days of biting metal are behind him. So glad your little one is OK!!!!
