Help can`t make this pup out.??

When our pup 5mts is in the Xpen, from which he has access to the out side & garage,& is close to us. This is what happens, when in the pen he sleeps & rests quietly, when we bring him out to be with us, he goes nuts biting & acting silly, won`t sit on our laps, is like a worm, humps his bed if there, after everything. We put him back after half hour of this, down he goes like a baby, again. Some books say when he come out to be with us, the pack is getting ready to go off & hunt! so he is gearing up. Any thoughts? HELP.

How many hours a day is he in his pen?
Do you take him out for daily walks? He sounds like a typical busy puppy that needs to burn off energy-

It does sound like he might be spending too much time on his own and "goes nuts" when he has a chance to be let out.

He sounds like a normal 5 months old pup to me! He's doing great if he is resting nicely in the pen. Lots of pups just fuss wanting out! When he comes out he is very excited to be with you and has alot of energy to burn off. He needs some play time or a walk and some fun training to burn off some of that energy!

Thanks people, Cash is never locked in the pen he`s free to come & go, he`s with us all day, roams around inside, two long walks a day,+ runs in the ball park, back & fourth to a whistle for treats, retrievs well, is fully house broken, he goes into the pen when we want a break . Its only when we stop at nite & want some down time, he`s off.

Hi Graham, Cash is very normal for a pup. He probably just needs more time in the living room with you. Bring him over to play with Chico and Simone and they can all rip around our house.

I agree. Sounds very normal for a 5 month old puppy.

Take him out of the pen, put a leash on him, and walk him for about a mile. He needs to expend some energy. Believe me, it works. Beanie does the same thing...I take her cross country skiing for about a mile on a hardpack trail...she comes in relaxed and ready to rest and quite mellow. I think exercise is what he needs.

It sounds to me like he needs some more time out of the pen, with the family. Like any child, he will need to "learn" the proper behaviors to be with the family. He is probably SO excited to be there that he cant control himself. The first few times, basicly ignore him, if he lays by you great, or cuddles, great. If you ignore him while is his going crazy, he will realize that he wont get any attention and that during this time, it is quiet family time and he will calm down. Good luck.

He sounds normal to me. When you come home, exercise and play with him to wear him out!

Dexter was soooooooooooooooooooooooo hyper as pup! In the evening at times, it was like he had an excess amount of energy inside and he would bug me to death, until I finally figured it out! And, we took him outside to run back and forth between me and my dh for about 5 minutes...I am talking about running from the front yard to the back yard or until tongue was hanging out (Dexter's tongue Sheri).

Then, Dexter was the calmest nicest puppy ever! This did not happen every night for Dexter............and I do not have a day job. Dexter was always around someone during the day. It is like he went berserk (crazy if you ask me).

Dexter often nips at the heels too (as a pup)....Herding me....I just stop and say "EH EH" and I do not continue walking until Dexter stops the nipping. Dexter rarely nips my heels now.
