Dancin' Havs on Whidbey LOVES this site!

Dear Fellow Havanese lovers,
I have already forgotten how I stumbled on to this site, but I love it and thank you to the founder of this forum. I think it is Lily's "Mom" from Dallas who started the forum and that is where I am originally from. Here is a little about me and my family and havs.
We are the Wheeler's on Whidbey Island. We got our first havanese, Dancin' Molly Grace in 2002 in Camarillo, CA. Our daughter showed her for 3 years in 4-H. In 2005 she won grand champion in Obedience at the Puyallup State fair. She also earned the title of International Champion with IABCA. She had 4 litters making many families very happy. She is now retired and enjoying the wonderful companionship of one of her daughters, Dancin' Betsy Jane. We feel very fortunate to have discovered this special breed and for all the great people we have met that share in the joy of owning a Havanese....or two! This forum looks like a fabulous, well organized place to learn and share. Thank you! Teresa, Bob and Natalie Wheeler

Wow! I have instant friends with the wonderful common bond of our love of the Havanese breed. Thank you for making me feel so welcome. I have already read many of your posts and feel like I know you. I spent hours one night reading all the posts about Shadow when he was sick and sadly passed away. I cried with empathy and felt such respect for the many that posted and shared their thoughts, prayers and love. What a great support group and place to learn, share and relate. Cheers to all! Teresa

Hi! Glad you figured out how to post!

Do you know if there are any good places for obedience on Whidbey? I've only found one place, south of Oak Harbor at Pampered Pets (or something similar.) But, I wasn't impressed with the location, at least, because it is in a building full of stains on the carpeting. Didn't learn much there. I'd love to get some serious obedience training in.

Check into K9 Potentials. http://www.k9potentials.com/ We went to her class when Molly was 6 mo. and and really got started on the right path with the basic commands. The owner is Carol Gannaway. She has a nice indoor place on her property in Clinton on the South end. I saw on her website that she also offers a class at the Pampered Pooch in Oak Harbor, so that might be the place you have looked into. How old is Tucker? One other idea is to check into a local 4-H club and see if there is a serious 4-H'er that would like to work with you one on one. One thing about Carol's group classes is that there is lots of great socializing with other dogs. She is well-known for working with dogs. Do you remember if she was the instructor? A good friend of mine who shows King Charles Cavalier's drives to Bow near LaConner for training her show dog. I will have to ask her if he offers any obedience classes. OK, these are my ideas for now.
Take care- Teresa
