New Peeing Behavior

My Sammy who is now 6 months old, started this new behavior last night.

Usually when we go for his walk he has his favorite pee & poo spots. We go for a 10 minute walk and he typically does 100% of his poop in one spot and maybe he'll pee in 2 spots along the walk.

Last night I noticed he peed in about 10 different spots, he did the same thing today (different route with some overlap). Could this be the beginning of marking?

He is not fixed yet, and I haven't noticed this behavior in the house yet.

Thanks

He is definitely marking. I have a neutered male and he still does this on our walks. I think it is just a boy thing.

Emphasis mine.

Not just boys, Debbie. My little Tori is a marker extraordinaire. She'll stop and mark every block if I'd let her. Amanda's Belle is quite the marker, too.

It does sound as if Sammy has started leaving "pee mails" for the neighborhood dogs.

Yup, marking. Murray is neutered as well, but does it outside all the time. He has never done it inside, though.

My female Bichon was the same way. We didn't go on very many walks because all she wanted to do is sniff the ground, mark, sniff, mark and on and on. When she saw something, then we'd run, but very little walking.

Interesting, Leah. We had a female yorkie for many years that did that as well. Right down to hiking her leg like she was a boy! She is the only female dog I've ever had that marked.

Emphasis mine....." Pee Mails" so cute, Leslie. Benji does it all the time. Lizzie is very selective with whom she corresponds.

Keep a check for anything unusual that might mean bladder infections, at 6 months he is probably marking…..Galen pees one time, Smarty will mark every five feet if I let her. She has been a marker since about that age.

Murphy is a marker outside. We had a neighbor's dog over the other night and he and Murphy would pee on the same spot outside over and over after each other. It was funny!

No one here "marks" in the house, but Rufus loves to mark things outside. Once he started he was very driven to hike his leg and mark. He even tried to mark a friends leg! We had him neutered ASAP after that but he still likes to mark just isn't as obsessive about it. Marley was neutered at 6 months but hadn't started that behavior and doesn't pull to every tree and corner but he has started to pee over the girls pee in our yard.

One of my girls is an outdoor marker and she will hike on trees and even try to poo on trees!
