Dog Rescued from L.A. River

This afternoon we watched this amazing rescue of a GSD from the rain-swollen L.A. River. They interviewed the vet who took care of him after the ordeal and it appears the only "injury" to the dog is that his nails were totally ground down to nubs by him trying to hold on to the concrete lining to save himself.

God bless those rescuers!

I saw that on the news tonight. I felt so bad for the poor dog. I'm glad they went in to get him.

I saw that on the news too. The poor thing was terrified and kept going further from them. The rescue was spectacular and a joy to watch. God bless that poor baby. I hope he has a good home to go to.

It aggravated me that the press kept trying to make such a big deal of the dog biting the firefighter. The firefighter understood how panicked the poor dog was. What did the press expect?

From what I know no one has come forward to claim him. However, there are tons of offers from folks who'd like to have him become theirs. After the official waiting period, assuming the owners (if there are any) don't claim him, I'm sure he'll go to a nice home.

Karen~ They interviewed the bitten firefighter and he basically told them he fully expected to get bit, once he realized he couldn't get the muzzle on him. He also told them he would do it all over again, the reward fully outweighs the pain. He doesn't blame the dog at all. He knew it was doing what any panicked dog would do.

Poor dog! Did they say 50 firefighters responded to the rescue? That's hard to fathom.

I'm glad the firefighter has movement and sensation in his hand and will be able to return to full duty soon. He risked his ability to do his job to save that dog. That's incredible and admirable.

I hope those owners show up soon.

Hi Leslie, I know they interviewed him... I watched those too. What aggravated me was that the reporters kept asking questions that made him even feel the need to SAY that he didn't hold it against the dog.
