I have an incredible "saving a drowning dog story." More than 25 years ago, my Aunt had a Doberman Pincher named Rusty. We had a large family gathering at a family lake cabin. Several of us went out in the boat and as we were leaving the dock, Rusty jumped in the boat. We were a couple yards from shore when another family dog ran onto the dock. Rusty leaped out of the boat, but immediately began struggling. Before we could get to her, she was under the water. My brother who was in college and worked as a lifeguard, pulled Rusty to shore and began administering mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. This is not an easy thing to do on a long snouted animal but he did it and Rusty was saved. If he had not been there, I am sure she would have died.
Three years later, my Aunt, was leaving her business late at night. Her company was not in the best area of town which is why she had Rusty with her. As she left the building, a man grabbed her from behind and held a gun to her head. Rusty charged the man and knocked him to the ground. Rusty was shot and killed in the struggle, but my Aunt escaped unharmed.
Of course, we all thought...what if Rusty had drowned, but she had to live because it was her destiny to save her owner from harm in the future.
