behaviorist update

well, to say my head is spinning is putting it mildly! the behaviorist was good, she basically told me what i already know that django runs the house!

actually she helped me figure out where he sees himself inour household, and how i need to change my ways a bit to make him see that i am the leader thus giving him more confidence and therefore not freaking out in certain situations cuz he knows i will take care of things and that he's not in charge. it was worth spending one on one time with someone and coming up with a plan for trianing.

using his morning kibble to train, etc.

i talked to the vet we are taking django off his pred. he thinks that's the reason behind his excessive pee and drinking.

I'm so glad to hear you got good input from the behaviorist and even more pleased to hear your vet is going to trial django off the prednisone. It has so many side effects and I was really thinking it was a likely culprit in his excessive thirst and urination. I hope you are able to keep the Addison's in check without it.

Oh yes, I agree with not having him going off when you aren't going to be there. You know what to watch for.

Enjoy your time away and keep me updated on how things are going when you get back.

I'm glad to see a trainer has been helping Django. Good luck with weaning him off the Prednisone and enjoy yourselves while you're away. Keep us posted!

Well, our trip was great but django continued to pee in the house when left behind. we got back saturda and i left him today for a few hours only to find pee in the kithen! he's going to the vet tomorrow for his shot. don't know what to do or think of this situation. he's still peeing alot and drinkng alot, maybe it takes time for the pred. to work thru his system.

I'm sorry to hear the peeing continues. We are still always so careful about what we leave lying around because I can't trust my two! I hate it, but other than crating them half the time or having them tethered to me, I just keep letting them out often, praising them when they pee outside and keep an eagle eye on them. sigh.... If Django has health issues, then that's another story, but I'd bet some of the reason he's still peeing inside is habit. Sure wish I had a quick solution!

Have you considered using a belly band on him? I use one on my two when we're out visiting.

i'm not sure how much is habit and how much is prednisone. i talked to the vet yesterday, we went in for his monthly shot and he recommended taking him off the pred all together. my issue is that we are traveling quite a bit the next 3 months and i am concerned if i take him off all together, he might crash and i don't want that to happen when i am away. i am going to give him a pred every 10 days to see what happens. he had one today and has peed like a mad man all day and yup, had an accident when i left him for a few hours. if it's partial habit, how do i break him of it? it only happens when we are gone.

It seems that the prednisone might well be the reason he simply can't/won't hold it when you are gone. Kind of like, why bother holding it when he's alone, if the desire to go is there? When you are home he may be able to use more self-control, and there is more going on to keep him distracted from the need to potty. Maybe?

well, he goes out every house and a half or so when we are home and runs to the door. i think it's a combo, pred and perhaps habit. i am going to givehim a week with the change in days tween pred and then look into the belly band. i need to make sure the peeing isn't from the pred. cuz that's something he can't control. if it's habit peeing while we are gone, then belly band it is for a bit.
