Yellow Lawn Spots

Now that summer is here and the grass is green does anyone have any tricks/secrets/suggestions on dealing with those dreaded yellow spots! Thought with one pup it was bad - but now with 2 my lawn looks like a polka dot yard!! Have read about patch covers, natural treats to neutralize urine blah blah!!

You could hose down the locationof the pee, everytime your Hav goes. That would work! Ofcourse that means you would have to follow him around with a hose...

Does this happen to everyone though? Beamer has being peeing all over my lawn for 11 days now and I do not have any yellow spots anywhere..and its only rained once during that period. So???? What does that mean? All dog pee is not created equally? lol

Oh Catherine, I hear you! Our lawn is a mess right now. Parts look green, the other look brown. It looked great in spring with all the rain. Half of the brown is from the dog, the other half is from lawn moth damage. I won't let my husband put down the usual insecticide he uses (don't want to hurt Maddie), so we're just trying to pretend it isn't a disaster.

O.K. I will admit I am one of those mom's that follow my boys around with a milk jug of water .. But it actually works. I feel much better about doing that then giving them some kind of pill. And I do miss some, the morning one is the most important one I think..

Freeway, I could be wrong but Beamer is still a pup and does not hold it as long as the older ones yet so the pee is not as potent (not sure what the correct word is).

There are lawn treatments you can buy to treat small spots.
"Dogonit" (Fosters & Smith) and "Spot Check" (Petsmart) are just two of the many on the market.

There are other treatments that you feed to your dog to change the PH-or whatever of their urine, but be careful about that.

You can also train your dogs to potty in one specific area of the yard which will (ideally) contain the damage to that area.

Otherwise your best bets are saturating fresh pee with water, re-seeding every so often, and learning to be okay with 'brown'.
