Travelling with your pooch

You name it the web has it. Here is a site for small dog owners who travel.

Neat site, Dave. I've saved it to my favorites.

You must have been reading my mind! We're just in the process of making airline reservations for next November. I'm worried about cabin crate sizes (8 1/2" in height seems very limiting). We've sent Tucker in checked luggage before, and it was fine, although the flight was a bit shorter than our next one.
We're wondering if other Havanese owners take their dogs in the cabin with them? If so, what do your dogs weigh? I can't really see my 15-16 lb dog going under the seat too comfortably. But, it would be a huge relief if he could. (There are a few useful threads already on this forum about airline travel. Thank you!)
Anyway, thanks so much for this article. Packing is a whole separate issue. I think my dog needs more stuff than I do!

I take Stella with me on the plane to Boston to visit my DD quite often. She weighs a little over 12 pounds and fits comfortably under the seat in front of me.
My only complaint is that she doesn't qualify for a frequent flier number. At $300 a ticket, it'd be nice to earn a free one once in awhile.

Riley weighs 15 lbs and I took him in the cabin on a 3 hour flight. I have the large Sherpa bag. He can't stand up under the seat but he can turnaround. He laid very quietly and did not make a sound. I will definitely take him on board again.

That's exactly what I was wanting to know. Thank you. I'm going to look for a Sherpa bag online. (My dog is 15.5 lb at his leanest and 16 when I'm not watching his weight. So, this is making me feel much better.)
Our flight is about 4 1/2 hours. It's a direct flight, too, which is a bonus.
