Constipation

Well, we had a great run, a year and a half without issues. Poor Django has an abscessed anal gland. Rough weekend, took him to the vet yesterday, she took care of things, he's on the road to recovery however, he hasn't pooped in 3 days.

I know with the abscessed gland dogs sometimes dogs don't eat or poop. I gave him a little pumpkin today, waiting for the vet to call. She checked him Monday and was confident there was any blockage, just other issues that were keeping him from pooping. Who would want to poop with this problem!

Any suggestions for constipation. This is a new one for me.

We had that for about 2 or 3 days when Zoe was only eating meat. She ended up getting very constipated and in fact would cry while she strained to poop. It was heartwrenching to watch. I took her to the vet and he gave her lactulose solution (a stool softener). It takes a little while to work. She is now on a more balanced diet with vegetables, continues with the lactulose, and we have not had the problem since. Actually, last night she wanted to share my kale and sweet potato (I was amazed at how much she wanted and this was after her dinner). Needless to say she had a lot of nice morning poopies. My neighbor had recommended the canned pumpkin but she wouldn't eat that. Hope this helps.

Go for vet is the best thing you can do about it.

Best thing you can do is to wait for the vet, to find what are those symptoms.
